New York Red Bulls vs. New England Revolution – MLS, October 28, 2020

| October 26, 2020 10:01 am PDT

The Red Bulls’ resurgence under new head coach Gerhard Struber continued last weekend as they extended their unbeaten to run to four games. The New York club is now just three points behind the Revs, who head into Wednesday’s meeting between the teams on a two-game winless run.

The only previous meeting between these sides this year ended in a 1-1 draw. Who will come out on top this time around?

NY Red Bulls vs. New England Revolution Betting Odds

New York Red Bulls to Win 2.15
The Draw 3.60
New England Revolution to Win 3.00

New England (3.00) may be sitting three points ahead of New York Red Bulls (2.15) in the Eastern Conference standings, but 10bet believes that the home side has the upper hand here.

Both sides have picked up 15 points from their previous ten games. However, it feels like the momentum is with the New York club right now.

Assessing the Teams

Following a victory over Atlanta United at the beginning of October, the Red Bulls have drawn their last three outings. Of course, a three-game winless run is not a record to be proud of. But when you consider the New York club’s results earlier in the campaign, I think the team can be hugely proud of their recent achievements.

Gerhard Struber’s men managed to hold both Toronto FC and Orlando City to a 1-1 draw, although it looked as though the Red Bulls’ revival would come to an end last time out. Chicago was leading 2-1 with seconds remaining, but a late Brian White equalizer saw the game end all square.

White has now scored a stoppage-time equalizer in each of the previous two games, and the forward’s never say die attitude sums up what the team is about at the moment. Indeed, the Red Bulls have fought back to get something from each of their last three outings, so you’d be foolish to write them off on Wednesday.

On the flip side, New England has been pretty inconsistent of late. A four-game unbeaten streak across late September and early October saw the Revs cement a spot in the top-six, but two wins in five games since then have jeopardized their play-off ambitions.

Bruce Arena’s men enjoyed 63% possession against Nashville SC last time out, but they were ultimately made to settle for a draw. Despite recording nine shots, the Revs only managed two on target, with Adam Buska rescuing a point for his side.

Only five teams in the division have scored fewer goals than New England this season. Granted, the Revs have the fourth-best defensive record in the Eastern Conference, but they must start scoring goals in order to hold onto their place in the top six.

NY Red Bulls vs. New England Revolution Pick

  • New York Red Bulls to Win

Following three straight draws, I’m backing the Red Bulls to secure the win on Wednesday. Struber’s men have shown great spirit in their recent outings, and I can see them turning their determination into three points.

New England is likely to put up a decent fight, but the Revs’ lack of firepower in attack could prove costly.
