New York Red Bulls vs. Nashville SC – MLS, June 18, 2021
The Red Bulls desperately need to get some points on the board after losing four of their opening seven games this season. Having taken nine points from a possible 21, Gerhard Struber’s men find themselves ninth in the Eastern Conference – eight points behind first-place New England.
Sitting just two points ahead of RBNY, Nashville remains the only unbeaten team in the East this year. However, the Boys in Gold have drawn five of their seven matches in 2021, meaning the Red Bulls have actually claimed more victories this term.
The two sides clash at Red Bull Arena this Friday, June 18. In this betting preview, I discuss the MLS odds before sharing my prediction and pick for New York Red Bulls vs. Nashville SC.
New York Red Bulls vs. Nashville Odds
Three of the Red Bulls’ four losses this season have come on the road, while Struber’s men have won three of their four matches on home soil. It’s clear that all the top betting sites are aware of RBNY’s contrasting home and away record.
Given that Nashville has yet to taste defeat this year, the juicy prices for the draw bet and the away win offer excellent value here. Can the Tennessee team extend their unbeaten streak to eight games on Friday?
The Red Bulls Must Shake Their Inconsistency
I’d be lying if I said that predicting the outcome of the Red Bulls’ next game was an easy task. Based solely on the team’s sequence of results this season (LLWWLLW), Struber’s side should beat Nashville. But it’s not as simple as that.
That said, they have managed to beat Toronto and Orlando this year.
Scoring goals hasn’t been an issue for Struber’s men. In fact, they have netted ten goals this term – and only two sides (New York City and New England) have scored more in the East. However, they have also conceded ten goals.
Only the bottom five teams in the conference have allowed more goals than RBNY this season. If the Red Bulls don’t fix their leaky backline soon, they could struggle to mount a challenge for a top-seven finish.
How Long Can Nashville Remain Unbeaten?
There are two ways in which you can assess Nashville’s 2021 campaign. On the one hand, you could say that Gary Smith’s men have done remarkably well to avoid defeat in their opening seven games. On the other, you could argue that they have only picked up two wins.
The Boys in Gold kicked off the season with three straight draws against Cincinnati, Montreal, and Inter Miami before beating New England. Since then, they have recorded one win and two ties – beating Austin and drawing with both RSL and Atlanta.
Having conceded just six goals this term, the second-year side boasts the third-best defensive record in the East. Goalkeeper Joe Willis has been immense between the sticks, keeping four clean sheets in seven outings (57.1% shutout rate).
My Red Bulls vs. Nashville Betting Pick
Having analyzed both sides and taken everything into consideration, the draw is my New York Red Bulls vs. Nashville SC betting pick. I mean, the Boys in Gold have already recorded five draws this season.
The Red Bulls have been wildly inconsistent this year, so backing them feels like a risky move. On the flip side, it appears that Nashville has forgotten how to lose.
