New York Red Bulls vs. Inter Miami – MLS, October 7, 2020

| October 5, 2020 8:30 am PDT

A fortnight on from the Red Bulls 4-1 thrashing of Inter Miami, the two sides clash again on Wednesday, October 7, with the New York club sitting 11 points ahead of the Herons in the Eastern conference.

Following an impressive run of one defeat in five games, Miami has now lost their last three. Meanwhile, the Red Bulls have claimed two wins in their previous three MLS outings.

New York Red Bulls vs. Inter Miami Odds

New York Red Bulls to Win 2.30
The Draw 3.50
Inter Miami to Win 2.85

I’m a little surprised that 10bet has made the price for the away win so low here. If I was to back Inter Miami (2.85) in this game, I would like the odds to be a lot higher, especially considering the Herons’ three-game losing streak.

The Red Bulls (2.30) head into this clash as the favorite, and with a new head coach on his way to New York, the home side will surely be eager to impress.

Let’s take a closer look at the teams.

New York Red Bulls vs. Inter Miami Preview

The Red Bulls have been without a head coach since Chris Armas’ sacking last month, with Bradley Carnell filling in as interim head coach. However, the club appears to be on the verge of making a permanent appointment, with Gerhard Struber joining from English Championship side Barnsley.

In my opinion, this is a fantastic appointment. The New York club claimed back-to-back 4-1 victories over Miami and Montreal Impact not so long ago, but a 3-1 defeat to Orlando City last time out proves the team is nowhere near the top sides in the country.

With a record of W6-D2-L7, the Red Bulls are clearly in need of some consistency. Sure, they are still in a strong position to qualify for the play-offs. But the arrival of Struber should bring a sense of stability to the club. The Austrian is known for his tactical intelligence, and he could take the New York club to the next level.

The Herons appeared to have found their feet last month. A run of one defeat in five games – which included two wins and a draw against Atlanta United – lifted the club off the bottom of the Eastern Conference. But three straight defeats have quickly undone all their hard work.

Worryingly, Inter Miami has conceded over 2.5 goals in each of their previous three outings. After losing 4-1 to the Red Bulls, the Florida outfit was beaten 3-0 by Philadelphia Union before suffering a 3-2 defeat to New York City last weekend.

Granted, Diego Alonso’s men pushed NYC all the way on Sunday. Lewis Morgan netted a double as Miami enjoyed the majority of possession and racked up 13 shots. But the Herons’ inexperience ultimately cost them.

New York Red Bulls vs. Inter Miami Betting Pick

  • New York Red Bulls to Win

The Herons are enduring a seriously tricky spell, and I can’t see them ending their losing streak on Wednesday. The Red Bulls appear to be heading in the right direction again following a rough patch of their own, so I’m backing the New York club to claim all three points when Miami comes to town.
