New York Red Bulls vs. FC Cincinnati – MLS, September 19, 2020

| September 16, 2020 6:44 am PDT

Bradley Carnell picked up his first win as interim head coach as the Red Bulls beat DC United last weekend. The New York club now sits five points ahead of Cincinnati in the Eastern Conference, with the two sides meeting at Red Bull Arena on Saturday, September 19.

The Orange & Blue claimed a shock victory over the Red Bulls at the MLS is Back Tournament but has failed to win any of their six regular-season games since then.

I discuss the bookies’ odds before sharing my New York Red Bulls vs. FC Cincinnati prediction and betting pick.

New York Red Bulls vs. FC Cincinnati Betting Odds

New York Red Bulls to Win 1.62
The Draw 4.00
FC Cincinnati to Win 4.50

Cincinnati’s knack for drawing games makes the price for the draw very attractive here, especially when you consider that the Red Bulls have endured an iffy run of results recently. Of course, the top online sportsbooks expect the New York club to win this game. But in all honesty, I was hoping the odds for the home win would be slightly higher.

New York Red Bulls vs. FC Cincinnati Preview

Former Red Bulls manager Chris Armas was fired following a defeat to DC United a fortnight ago, with Bradley Carnell taking over on a temporary basis. Carnell oversaw a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Philadelphia Union last week, although he got his revenge over DC with a 2-0 win at the weekend.

The Red Bulls crashed out of the MLS is Back Tournament at the group stage before winning just one of their four games after the regular season resumed. The hierarchy clearly believed that it was time for a change, but it is difficult gauge how the team will fare in the coming weeks.

The Red Bulls looked sharp against DC last time out, with goals from Aaron Long and Daniel Royer doing the damage. But that was a game they were expected to win. It remains to be seen how the team will cope under Carnell against the division’s top teams.

Fortunately for Carnell, Cincinnati is not one of the division’s top teams. In fact, only bottom-club Inter Miami sits below the Orange & Blue in the Eastern Conference standings.

Yes, Jaap Stam’s men have showed they can compete at this level. Goalless draws with DC, Columbus Crew, and Chicago Fire prove the team is no pushover. But let’s not forget that Cincinnati has also lost 3-0 to Chicago and Columbus since the regular season got back underway.

Stam’s side is without a win in six games and comes into this clash on the back of consecutive defeats.

New York Red Bulls vs. FC Cincinnati Pick

  • New York Red Bulls to Win

As I already mentioned, I believe the odds for the home win should be a bit higher for the matchup. But after taking everything into consideration, this isn’t the worst price in the world. I’m backing the Red Bulls to build on their win over DC and extend Cincinnati’s winless run to seven games.
