New York Jets vs. Kansas City Chiefs – NFL Week 8, 2020

The New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs will face off against each other in Week 8 of the 2020 NFL season in what should be a one-way-street clash that offers some improbable odds to the bettors.

The Jets are still winless after the first seven weeks. They’ve covered the spread only once in the process, and now, they have to play the reigning Super Bowl champions who went 6-1 straight up and 5-2 ATS through their first seven games.

Everybody expects to see a lopsided score Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, so here’s my best Jets vs. Chiefs betting pick for Week 8.

Honestly, I cannot recall the last season’s game between the Jets and Pats when New York covered a 21-points spread in a 30-14 road loss. Anyway, the Jets are 0-2 straight up and 2-0 ATS in their two outings as underdogs of 19 or more points this century.

On the other side, the Chiefs haven’t been listed as 19.5-point favorites probably since forever. They are 5-0 SU and 3-2 ATS in their last five outings as favorites of 19 or more points.

The Jets finally covered the spread last Sunday, but that’s a consolation prize for blowing a 10-0 lead against the Buffalo Bills. New York didn’t allow a single touchdown, but since La’Mical Perine’s 5-yard run with 7:22 to go in the second quarter, the Jets went scoreless.

Sam Darnold had another terrible outing, going 12-from-23 for 120 yards and a couple of interceptions. The Jets racked up a paltry 190 total yards while surrendering 422 in a return. It’s safe to say they didn’t deserve to get anything from this clash.

The Jets are scoring only 12.1 points per game while yielding 29.0 in a return. Enough said.

The Chiefs dismantled the Denver Broncos 43-16 on the road in Week 7 even though they racked up only 286 total yards while surrendering 411 in a return. Still, the reigning champs visited the red zone six times thanks to their terrific defense.

Furthermore, the Broncos had a really bad day in the office, committing four turnovers while allowing Byron Pringle to score a 102-yard kick-off return.

The Chiefs’ defense has improved a lot since the end of the 2019 regular season. Kansas City is 30^th in the league in rushing yards allowed per game (149.9), but the Chiefs’ D is ninth in points per game (20.4) and fifth in passing yards (211.7).

On the other side of the ball, the reigning champs are averaging 31.1 points per contest (5^th in the league) on 134.7 rushing yards (9^th) and 263.6 passing yards (12^th).

I don’t feel comfortable with this massive spread, but there’s no way I’m going to buy some points or bet against common sense and take the Jets.

Give me the Chiefs to cover. This New York team is certainly the worst I’ve seen over the last four years. The Chiefs might try some new things, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Patrick Mahomes takes the second half off while Le’Veon Bell gets a ton of touches.

Still, the Chiefs should beat the Jets by 20. New York has dropped three of its previous five games by 20 or more points.
