New York City vs. New York Red Bulls Betting – MLS, November 1, 2020

The second Hudson River Derby of the season takes place this weekend, with New York City hosting the Red Bulls at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, November 1.

Two straight victories have seen the Boys in Blue cement fifth place in the Eastern Conference. However, the Gerhard Struber’s men are only four points behind their rivals having strung together an impressive five-game unbeaten streak.

The Red Bulls claimed the Big Apple bragging rights back in August. But who will come out on top this time around? You can find my New York City vs. New York Red Bulls prediction and betting pick below.

New York City vs. New York Red Bulls Odds

New York City to Win 1.67
The Draw 4.20
New York Red Bulls to Win 4.33

With just two defeats in their last eight outings, New York City (1.67) is the bookies’ favorite to win Sunday’s Hudson River Derby. But the Red Bulls (4.33) are on a strong run of their own at the moment, so you’d be foolish to write them off altogether.

Let’s take a closer look at the teams.

Previewing the Game

New York City backed up the weekend’s 3-1 victory over Montreal Impact by impressively seeing off high-flying Toronto FC on Wednesday. The Boys in Blue managed to prevent the Canadians from registering a single shot on target, while NYC racked up 15 attempts (six on target).

Jesus Medina scored the only goal of the game early in the second half, but it is fair to say that Ronny Deila’s men completely dominated Toronto. It feels like New York City is peaking a just the right time, with the playoffs fast approaching.

NYC has quality in every department. Medina has been the star of the show lately, notching up two goals and one assist in his last two appearances. But with Keaton Parks chipping in from midfield and shot-stopper Sean Johnson keeping clean sheets, the Boys in Blue will be feared playoff opponents.

Meanwhile, the Red Bulls continued their revival under new head coach Gerhard Struber as they beat New England Revolution on Wednesday. Aaron Long secured the victory for his side in the dying moments, maintaining the team’s new-found knack for scoring late goals.

Struber’s men have now scored in the 89th minute or later in each of their previous three outings. Brian White netted back-to-back stoppage-time equalizers against Orlando City and Chicago Fire, before Long followed suit in midweek.

The Red Bulls’ willingness to fight until the final whistle has been hugely impressive in recent weeks. Just like their cross-city rivals, Struber’s men are carrying plenty of momentum into the business end of the season.

New York City vs. New York Red Bulls Pick

  • New York Red Bulls to Win

New York City is the bookies’ clear favorite to win Sunday’s Hudson River Derby, but in all honesty, I think the price for the home win is pretty disappointing. Yes, NYC has the home advantage, but the Red Bulls have been almost unstoppable in recent weeks.

In my opinion, the odds for the away win offer the best value here. Struber’s men will be brimming with confidence after grabbing yet another late goal on Wednesday, and I can see them carrying their momentum into the weekend.
