NBA Predictions and Top Picks – March 2, 2021

| March 2, 2021 5:09 am PDT

A tense Western Conference battle anchors a fun seven-game NBA betting slate on Tuesday.

LeBron James and the Lakers cap off the night against Chris Paul and the Suns, providing Phoenix with a nice measuring stick as they go forward.

That’s just one of several great games, of course. Before you bet on Tuesday’s NBA games, take a look at every team in action.

  • Memphis Grizzlies vs. Washington Wizards
  • Los Angeles Clippers vs. Boston Celtics
  • Atlanta Hawks vs. Miami Heat
  • Detroit Pistons vs. Toronto Raptors
  • New York Knicks vs. San Antonio Spurs
  • Denver Nuggets vs. Milwaukee Bucks
  • Phoenix Suns vs. Los Angeles Lakers

That Lakers game ends a pretty exciting night of basketball, but there’s also a pretty epic clash between Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic.

The Celtics host Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers, too, while the surging Knicks travel to San Antonio.

Excited for Tuesday’s slate, but unsure how to bet? Let’s dive into this schedule with my NBA predictions and top betting picks for March 2nd.

Memphis Grizzlies vs. Washington Wizards Predictions

  • Wizards to beat Grizzlies
  • Predicted total: 230-235

Washington isn’t the doormat they were earlier in the year. They still aren’t good defensively, but they’re otherwise in a groove, winning seven of their last 10 contests.

The Wizards operate the fastest offense in the NBA, and they’ll be at home against a Grizzlies team that isn’t at 100%.

Washington is a solid bet here, while the Over is 17-14 in their games this year. That looks like a quality secondary wager, as well.

Los Angeles Clippers vs. Boston Celtics Predictions

  • Clippers to beat Celtics
  • Predicted total: 215-220

The only thing holding the Clippers back these days is random rest days for their superstars.

L.A. is a solid 6-4 over their last 10 games, and they own the third best record in the Western Conference. They’ll take a nice 12-6 road record to TD Garden tonight, when they face an embattled Celtics squad.

Boston just can’t get out of their own way this year. They’re still without defensive ace Marcus Smart, and it’s hurt them considerably, as they rank just 16th in defensive efficiency.

The Celtics are at least trending in the right direction (won their last two), but are just 4-6 overall in their last 10. The Clippers own the second best offense in the NBA stand out as a pretty good bet in this spot.

Atlanta Hawks vs. Miami Heat Predictions

  • Heat to beat Hawks
  • Predicted total: 220-225

The Hawks and Heat face off for the second time in three nights on Tuesday. Miami won the first meeting on Sunday (109-99), and that was without Jimmy Butler.

Butler is likely going to be back for this one, so it’ll be tough to go against the Heat here.

Miami is just 17-17 on the year, but they’re in flames with a current six-game winning streak. They’re also now a solid 10-7 at home, and have won four of the last five meetings with the Hawks.

Trae Young gives the Hawks a chance every time out, but he struggled with his shooting in this matchup on Sunday, and Butler’s return could only make it worse.

Atlanta are just 6-11 on the road this year, and haven’t been great (3-7 over their last 10) as a whole lately. Miami is the easy call in this one, but there could be enough points to bump up interest in the Over.

Detroit Pistons vs. Toronto Raptors Predictions

  • Raptors to beat Pistons
  • Predicted total: 215-220

The Raptors don’t even have real home games this year, so take any edge they have “at home” with a huge grain of salt.

That said, I don’t think they need any major advantage against a bad Pistons team.

Detroit are just 9-25 overall, and they’re an absurd 3-15 on the road. They have also dropped three in a row, and are 3-7 over their last 10.

The one thing working against Toronto is the absence of big man Pascal Siakam, who will be held out through the All-Star break.

Perhaps that’s problematic, but the Raptors are quite deep. They’re also 6-4 over their last 10 games, and they’re among the most balanced teams in the league.

Everything points to the Raptors here, and I think they’ll win and cover.

New York Knicks vs. San Antonio Spurs Predictions

  • Spurs to beat Knicks
  • Predicted total: 210-215

This is a tougher one than you’d normally think, as the Knicks have turned into a pretty good team. Elfrid Payton could miss a third straight game, but the way Derrick Rose is playing, I doubt that matters.

Rose might just stick as the team’s starting point guard going forward, anyways.

Julius Randle has been a mad man lately, too. Just look at what he’s done during New York’s current three-game winning streak.

Opponent Points Rebounds Assist Result
Pistons 25 8 6 W, 109-90
Pacers 28 10 6 W, 110-107
Kings 21 14 4 W, 140-121

The Knicks are 7-3 over their last 10 games, and now sit one game above .500 at 18-17. I didn’t think they’d get here, but they’re clearly a solid team at this point.

The bad thing is their offense is not very reliable, and they tend to play slow. On the road against a faster Spurs team that is starting to get healthy, I think they have some problems.

The Spurs did play on Monday, so be sure to keep tabs on their veterans. If any are out, the Knicks would heat up as an intriguing bet.

Denver Nuggets vs. Milwaukee Bucks Predictions

  • Bucks to beat Nuggets
  • Predicted total: 220-225

This has the makings of one of the best games of the entire slate. Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo face off in a game with two superstars, as well as quality teams headed in the right direction.

Denver isn’t at full strength and they’ve been fairly erratic this year, but they’re still 6-4 over their last 10 games.

Milwaukee won the first meeting in Denver (125-112), and they’re on fire right now with wins in each of their last five contests.

The Deer also just got Jrue Holiday back, so it’s going to be tough to bet against them here. Oh, and they’re 14-4 at home.

Jokic is a handful down low, but the Bucks are the better team. I like Milwaukee and the Over.

Phoenix Suns vs. Los Angeles Lakers Predictions

  • Lakers to beat Suns
  • Predicted total: 210-215

The final game of Tuesday’s NBA betting slate offers up a tense Western Conference clash, with the winner taking over second place.

That’s where the Lake Show sits right now, but a loss would drop them a spot or two. I tend to think they’ll be motivated to get the job done.

Dennis Schroder has been back for two games now, and the Lakers have won both contests. They’re also a solid 11-7 at home on the year, and have won seven of the last eight meetings with the Suns.

If this game were in Phoenix, I’d definitely side with the Suns. Phoenix is very good defensively, while Devin Booker reminded everyone of his scoring upside in his last game.

The Suns are 8-2 in their last 10 games and they’re 11-5 on the road, so if the spread favors L.A., I’ll have interest in them. As a straight up bet, however, I will stick with the Lakers at home.
