NBA Predictions and Best Bets – February 5, 2021

| February 4, 2021 12:38 pm PDT

After a limited schedule on Thursday, the NBA is back in full force with nine games on Friday.

Before I break down how to bet on this slate, take a look at who is in action tonight.

  • New Orleans Pelicans vs. Indiana Pacers
  • Chicago Bulls vs. Orlando Magic
  • Milwaukee Bucks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers
  • Toronto Raptors vs. Brooklyn Nets
  • Washington Wizards vs. Miami Heat
  • Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Oklahoma City Thunder
  • Utah Jazz vs. Charlotte Hornets
  • Detroit Pistons vs. Phoenix Suns
  • Boston Celtics vs. Los Angeles Clippers

It’s a big slate in terms of volume, but also in terms of quality. Boston and L.A. cap the night with what should be a terrific game, while there could be a few other shootouts to dip your betting toes into.

If you’re unsure as to how to bet just yet, let my NBA predictions and top betting picks for Friday, February 5th do the talking.

New Orleans Pelicans vs. Indiana Pacers Predictions

  • Pacers to beat Pelicans
  • Predicted total: 210-215

The Pacers wasted a monster performance from Domantas Sabonis in a blowout loss to the Bucks. I thought that game would be closer, but at least it was nice to see Sabonis show up.

Indy should get things back on track on Friday. The Pacers host an 8-12 Pelicans team that are just 3-7 on the road this year. I trust Indy’s defense in this spot.

Chicago Bulls vs. Orlando Magic Predictions

  • Magic to beat Bulls
  • Predicted total: 210-215

The Bulls and Magic are both struggling right now. Both teams have just eight wins on the year and are at risk of sliding further down the Eastern Conference standings.

Chicago is healthier with more offensive talent, but I don’t see how the Bulls can contain Nikola Vucevic in this matchup.

The Magic have dropped four in a row, but I think they snap their skid with a big outing from Vuc.

Milwaukee Bucks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers Predictions

  • Bucks to beat Cavaliers
  • Predicted total: 220-225

Milwaukee is just 13-8 on the season, but that is good for the second-best record in the Eastern Conference.

The Bucks have had some bad losses lately, but they’ve turned things up a notch with two straight wins.

Look for them to keep it going in an easy road win against the 10-12 Cavs.

Toronto Raptors vs. Brooklyn Nets Predictions

  • Nets to beat Raptors
  • Predicted total: 230-235

Toronto has played far better on defense lately, and they’re quietly turning their season around after a slow start. A career effort out of Fred VanVleet in their last game certainly helped.

The Raptors are worth rooting for, but they may not have the goods to keep pace with the explosive Nets. Brooklyn’s defense is trash, but they’re still 10-4 at home, and they’re putting up an insane 122 points per game.

Hammer the Over and the Nets in this one.

Washington Wizards vs. Miami Heat Predictions

  • Heat to beat Wizards
  • Predicted total: 230-235

Washington stays in South Beach for another battle with the Heat. Miami is struggling right now, as they dropped a close one to the Wiz on Wednesday and are now just 7-14 on the year.

The Wizards are just 5-13 and are atrocious on defense, but Russell Westbrook will be back in the lineup to fuel a very good offense.

Miami is in trouble, but a win here can help them turn things around. Look for Jimmy Butler to pour in a vintage performance in a clutch home win.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Predictions

  • Timberwolves to beat Thunder
  • Predicted total: 215-220

Minnesota remains pretty banged up, and at a paltry 5-16, they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Barring a random return from star center Karl-Anthony Towns, it’s awfully hard to get excited about them.

OKC continues to impress, as they’re a respectable 9-11 considering their talent level. Unfortunately, they’re weirdly awful (2-7) on their home floor.

I don’t trust the T’Wolves, but this is the type of game they can actually win.

Utah Jazz vs. Charlotte Hornets Predictions

  • Jazz to beat Hornets
  • Predicted total: 220-225

Utah could be a bit tired after facing the Hawks on Thursday night, so do be aware this could be a trap game for them.

LaMelo Ball has also looked really good as of late, so the Hornets look like a sneaky bet at home.

That said, I’d much rather just target the Over in this one.

Detroit Pistons vs. Phoenix Suns Predictions

  • Suns to beat Pistons
  • Predicted total: 210-215

Phoenix has Devin Booker back, but they are still trying to take that next step in their development as a team.

While they have some growing pains, I doubt they have many issues taking out the hapless Pistons.

Jerami Grant’s blow-up season continued with 27 points in his last game, but he’s literally all Detroit has to offer these days.

Put simply, it’s just not enough. Hammer the Suns.

Boston Celtics vs. Los Angeles Clippers Predictions

  • Clippers to beat Celtics
  • Predicted total: 215-220

The last game on Friday’s NBA schedule could end up being the best. Boston stays in California after blowing a winnable game against the Kings, but it’s tough to peg their prospects here.

Boston is plenty good enough to upend the Clippers, but Los Angeles is 8-2 at home and 17-6 on the year. They’re simply the better, healthier team between the two.

If Kawhi Leonard or PG-13 are to sit out, Boston could offer insane value. For now, I like the Clippers to take care of business at home.

Best NBA Bets for Friday, February 5th

  • Magic (PK) -110
  • Pacers (-5) -110
  • Raptors (+5.5) -110
  • Wizards vs. Heat Over 228.5 (-110)
  • Suns (-10) -110
  • Celtics (+5) -110

If you can’t tell, there is a lot to like on Friday’s NBA betting slate. Orlando at home at -110 feels like a great play, while I think Indy can cover the spread against the Pels at home.

The Nets probably win, but that 243 total is a tad dicey, and Toronto is playing well. The Raptors at +5.5 feels good.

Washington at +6.5 could be interesting, but their offense and pace just makes their 228.5 game total feel remarkably low.

Milwaukee and Phoenix should both roll in their respective games, but the Suns at -10 gives you a bit more value. Finally, Boston probably won’t win in L.A., but I do think they can make a game of it and beat a five-point spread.
