NBA Predictions and Best Bets – February 1, 2021

| February 1, 2021 1:56 am PDT

If you took a break from betting on the NBA over the weekend, it welcomes you back with a massive 10-game slate on Monday.

Before you get ready to place your bets at the top NBA betting sites, see all the teams hitting the hardwood for the first day of February.

  • Los Angeles Lakers vs. Atlanta Hawks
  • Charlotte Hornets vs. Miami Heat
  • Sacramento Kings vs. New Orleans Pelicans
  • New York Knicks vs. Chicago Bulls
  • Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Cleveland Cavaliers
  • Portland Trail Blazers vs. Milwaukee Bucks
  • Houston Rockets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder
  • Phoenix Suns vs. Dallas Mavericks
  • Memphis Grizzlies vs. San Antonio Spurs
  • Detroit Pistons vs. Denver Nuggets

It’s a huge slate, to be sure, and it also isn’t light on star power. The first slate of games features LeBron James, Trae Young, Jimmy Butler, and LaMelo Ball.

The latter may have finally forced his way into Charlotte’s starting five, although we’ll all have to wait to find out for sure.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg for a huge slate that also has Luka Doncic, Damian Lillard, and Giannis Antetokounmpo slated to play.

For advice on how to bet on the NBA on Monday, read on for my NBA predictions and top betting picks for February 1st, 2021.

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Atlanta Hawks Predictions

  • Lakers to beat Hawks
  • Predicted total: 225-230

The action gets started in Atlanta, where a showdown between Trae Young and LeBron James looms. Anthony Davis sat out L.A.’s last game, and he should again be in question for this one.

L.A. snapped a little skid, and something tells me they’ll be focused for this one. It’s worth noting that Trae Young is on fire at the moment, of course.

If Young can keep the flames going, the Hawks should have a good chance to beat the spread, and the Over will be a solid try for bettors.

Charlotte Hornets vs. Miami Heat Predictions

  • Heat to beat Hornets
  • Predicted total: 220-225

Jimmy Butler made his return in Miami’s last game, and he did so rather loudly.

A healthy Butler is quite the boon for the Heat, who are just 7-12 through their first 19 games. They’re basically at full strength now, however, and they can start to lick their wounds at home here against the Hornets.

Charlotte scored a huge win over the Bucks in their last outing, of course, and it was spearheaded by a breakout performance by LaMelo Ball.

He may have earned a bigger role, but I don’t know if it translates into a big road win on Monday.

Sacramento Kings vs. New Orleans Pelicans Predictions

  • Pelicans to beat Kings
  • Predicted total: 220-225

New Orleans has responded to a bunch of trade rumors, winning two of their last three games.

Their slow pace and strong defense haven’t been prevalent lately, however, so it’s really tough to know what to expect from them.

The nice thing is they’re at home, they seem motivated, and the Kings are abhorrent defensively.

You could go either way here, but the Kings are spotted four points and New Orleans is just 3-6 ATS when favored this season.

The Pels should win and the Over is tempting, but Sacramento should at least keep it close.

New York Knicks vs. Chicago Bulls Predictions

  • Bulls to beat Knicks
  • Predicted total: 210-215

New York fought hard in a loss to the Clippers on Sunday, so it stands to reason they’ll be a bit tired when they make the trip up to Chicago.

They’ll be facing a defeated Bulls team that just got handed a heat-breaking loss to the Blazers, though.

Losing on a clutch shot by Damian Lillard isn’t that disheartening, however, and Chicago has a nice shot to bounce back at home. I like their chances.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Cleveland Cavaliers Predictions

  • Cavaliers to beat Timberwolves
  • Predicted total: 210-215

Cleveland hosts the T’Wolves after the two sides battled it out last night. Minnesota won that meeting, but Andre Drummond was pretty dominant down low.

In a second straight clash, I think the edge the Cavs have inside wins out, while Collin Sexton (16 points) should be a lot more aggressive this time around.

Minnesota is still without KAT and it’s possible D’Lo could sit out the second leg of a back-to-back set, so the Cavs look like a solid bet.

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Milwaukee Bucks Predictions

  • Bucks to beat Blazers
  • Predicted total: 225-230

Milwaukee is in a bad way. The Bucks have lost two in a row and four of their last six, with defensive lapses being the main culprit.

There’s even some doubt as to whether The Greek Freak will be able to suit up for this game.

Milwaukee hopefully has their MVP for this one, and if so, it’s hard not to like them to right the ship at home against a banged up Blazers squad.

That said, Portland remains explosive as ever, so the Over is quite alluring.

Houston Rockets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Predictions

  • Rockets to beat Thunder
  • Predicted total: 215-220

OKC continues to stave off a horror show of a season, as the Thunder are inexplicably 8-10 and refuse to give teams easy wins.

There won’t be anything easy about this game for either side on Monday, but Houston is seemingly in a groove right now with five straight wins.

The James Harden trip worked wonders for this franchise, as Houston is now two games out of the playoff race. Don’t be shocked if they keep it rolling in another winnable spot.

Phoenix Suns vs. Dallas Mavericks Predictions

  • Suns to beat Mavericks
  • Predicted total: 220-225

While the Rockets surge, Dallas continues their free fall. Luka Doncic has not been able to save the Mavs, as they’ve lost five in a row and look absolutely helpless right now.

Doncic has been mostly good, but he isn’t getting any help, and the Mavs aren’t playing particularly well in any regard.

The good news is Doncic is at least optimistic following a better effort in the team’s latest outing.

I’d love to back Dallas at home, but their recent play demands I jump ship. Phoenix could still be without Devin Booker, but they play good defense and have won two in a row. Bet on three.

Memphis Grizzlies vs. San Antonio Spurs Predictions

  • Grizzlies to beat Spurs
  • Predicted total: 220-225

Memphis finally returned to the floor after a long layoff, and they promptly took care of the rival Spurs. That extended their once dormant winning streak to six games.

Ja Morant has thrived against the Spurs, and he gets them again on Monday.

There isn’t a whole lot of reason to bet against Memphis here, while the Spurs (5-6) just can’t figure things out on their home floor this year.

Detroit Pistons vs. Denver Nuggets Predictions

  • Nuggets to beat Pistons
  • Predicted total: 215-220

The last game of the night goes down at the Pepsi Center, where Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets host the sad sack Pistons.

Detroit weirdly beat the Lakers a few nights ago, but they came crashing back to earth with a loss to the Warriors.

Jerami Grant has had a surprisingly good year and could be up for the NBA’s Most Improved Player Award, but that’s about all Detroit can hang their hat on.

I suppose he may be extra motivated to beat the team he left in free agency, but Denver is going to simply be too much here.

Best NBA Bets for Monday, February 1st

  • Kings (+4) -115
  • Rockets vs. Thunder Over 224.5 (-115)
  • Rockets (-4.5) -110
  • Blazers (+10) -115
  • Blazers vs. Bucks Over 233.5 (-110)

You can go with my NBA predictions above if you prefer to make just moneyline wagers. That certainly would simplify things, while you can still apply my logic and picks to any bets you make.

As for my preferred bets, you can see them listed above.

It starts with the Kings, who are terribly defensively, but are 7-7 ATS as underdogs. New Orleans also is impossible to trust in general, so assuming the Pels win by five (or at all) just feels wrong.

I like Houston to keep their winning streak going, too. They can beat OKC by five, but if you don’t love that wager, just bet the Over there. The Rockets have one of the faster paces in basketball, and OKC ranks 23rd defensively.

Houston’s defense has been very good, but I think the Thunder’s bad defense and the pace of this game can still top this reasonable total.

Portland beating a 10-point spread feels like a crazy steal. They’re not healthy at all right now, but the Bucks are terrible defensively at the moment. That game should easily go Over if recent history says anything, as both teams can score at will, but aren’t defending worth a lick.

I do think the Bucks get back on track and win, but by 10 points? Nah.

Hopefully these NBA predictions and top betting picks serve you well. If you’re looking for more NBA betting insight, feel free to check out our NBA betting blog.
