NBA Predictions and Best Bets – April 6, 2021

| April 5, 2021 2:00 pm PDT

If you’re betting on the NBA on Tuesday, there’s little doubt that your eyes will be pulled to the nightcap, which pits Portland and Los Angeles against each other.

That should be a fine way to close out this eight-game slate, but a tense meeting between the 76ers and Celtics helps tip things off earlier in the night.

For a full look at the schedule, here’s who is taking the floor on April 6th, 2021.

  • Chicago Bulls vs. Indiana Pacers
  • New Orleans Pelicans vs. Atlanta Hawks
  • Philadelphia 76ers vs. Boston Celtics
  • Los Angeles Lakers vs. Toronto Raptors
  • Memphis Grizzlies vs. Miami Heat
  • Detroit Pistons vs. Denver Nuggets
  • Milwaukee Bucks vs. Golden State Warriors
  • Portland Trail Blazers vs. Los Angeles Clippers

The two games I mentioned are arguably the two best games of the night, but overall, this is a nice-looking slate.

Chicago and Indiana are facing off, and both still have a shot at the playoffs, while Tuesday’s NBA schedule features a whopping 14 teams with a shot at postseason play.

See how to make sense of it with my NBA predictions and picks for Tuesday night.

Chicago Bulls vs. Indiana Pacers Predictions

  • Bulls to beat Pacers
  • Predicted total: 215-220

The Bulls finally stopped the bleeding with a big win over the Nets this past weekend. They’re just 2-8 over their last ten games, but an adjustment period following a trade for Nikola Vucevic was to be expected.

Chicago has their issues. They aren’t as healthy as they’d like, but they now have the inside/outside offense they need to do damage.

Indiana is in the way of Chicago’s pursuit for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Vuc gives them the big man to rival Indy’s size, while the Pacers have been banged up down low.

Both teams need this win, but I think Chicago is on the verge of a mini-surge.

New Orleans Pelicans vs. Atlanta Hawks Predictions

  • Hawks to beat Pelicans
  • Predicted total: 225-230

This game is a bit too volatile to pick a side for just yet. The Pels have played several games without top scorers Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson, and it’s unclear if they’ll be back for this one.

Atlanta isn’t 100%, either, as John Collins is currently sidelined.

I side with the Hawks just because they have more defensive potential, but this game should feature plenty of scoring. The Over is 33-16 in New Orleans games this season and the Pels rank 28th in defensive efficiency.

The Over stands out as the best bet here.

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Boston Celtics Predictions

  • 76ers to beat Celtics
  • Predicted total: 220-225

I’d imagine Joel Embiid will be back in action to take on the hated Celtics, seeing as he sat out of Philly’s last game.

Embiid is otherwise past his knee bruise, and the 76ers are in solid form as winners of six of their last 10. They’re not quite as reliable on the road, but Boston hasn’t been a team worth trusting all year long.

The Celtics are barely clinging to the final playoff spot in the east, and this is understandably not a great matchup for them. Philly won both games this year already, and neither were all that close.

Philly is also 5-1 over the last six meetings. As long as Embiid is on the floor, I like the Sixers to get the win.

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Toronto Raptors Predictions

  • Lakers to beat Raptors
  • Predicted total: 220-225

This is likely just a game to avoid, but this stands out as a nice spot for the Lakers to get a win.

Los Angeles is not the same team without LeBron James and Anthony Davis. They’re just 4-6 over their last ten games, but the Raptors are a mess.

Toronto is just 2-8 over their last ten games, and I don’t think I’ve been on the right side of them all season. Avoid this game if you can, but I see zero reasons to confidently bet in favor of the Raptors.

Memphis Grizzlies vs. Miami Heat Predictions

  • Heat to beat Grizzlies
  • Predicted total: 210-215

Memphis is trending in the right direction. They’ve won two straight games and, for the moment, own the 8th seed in the west.

The Grizzlies are a fine young team, but they’re running into some trouble in South Beach. Victor Oladipo is now on hand for the Heat, who are putting it all together during a nice four-game winning streak.

Miami is just 14-12 at home, but they really haven’t been healthy all year. With an extra boost of star power, the Heat looks like a solid bet in this spot.

Detroit Pistons vs. Denver Nuggets Predictions

  • Nuggets to beat Pistons
  • Predicted total: 215-220

It seems as though the Nuggets love to flirt with disaster. They managed to win their last game against Orlando but threatened to get blown out for the first three quarters.

Bettors will have to be worried that a lethargic version of this team will show up again, but on paper, they’re a smash play against the Pistons.

Denver can still move way up in the Western Conference standings, they’ve won five in a row, and they’re 8-2 over their last 10. They’re also 15-9 at home, and Detroit has won just 14 games all season.

I’d be interested to see how thick the spread is, though. Denver has gone just 8-11 ATS as home favorites on the year. Denver should win, but the Pistons’ ATS is going to be something to track.

Milwaukee Bucks vs. Golden State Warriors Predictions

  • Bucks to beat Warriors
  • Predicted total: 225-230

The Bucks and Warriors will play a fast-paced game that surely yields plenty of points. Milwaukee makes sense as the easy pick to win here, and the Over is also going to be in play.

These teams rank second and third in pace, while Bucks games have hit the Over 29 times. I think that’s the safest bet here, while I’ll have some interest in Golden State against the spread, depending on pricing.

Milwaukee is back on track with three straight wins, and they should win, but they’re just 22-27 ATS on the year.

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Los Angeles Clippers Predictions

  • Clippers to beat Blazers
  • Predicted total: 220-225

This is up there as one of the best NBA games for Tuesday, as the Blazers and Clippers will duke it out for some seeding bragging rights.

L.A. still has a shot at the two-seed, but a loss here would drop them down and give Portland a chance at seeds 3-5 for the moment.

Portland looks very good now that they’re at full strength, but it’s tough not to lean toward the Clippers. Not only do they still have two superstars to turn to, but they’re at home (18-8 at the Staples Center), and they’re always going to be the superior defensive team.

Best NBA Bets for Tuesday, April 6th

  • Bulls to Win (-115)
  • 76ers to Win (-130)
  • Pelicans vs. Hawks Over 228.5 (-110)
  • Heat to Win (-210)
  • Blazers (+5.5) -106

I like the Bulls and 76ers to win, so you better believe I’m excited about their -115 and -130 moneylines. The Chicago game is a true pick’em at the top sites for NBA betting, while Philly is just priced too nicely to ignore.

That Pelicans game should be in flames. Atlanta doesn’t push the pace like they did last year, but they can still fill it up offensively. New Orleans also has a terrible defense, and nobody has more games this year with the Over (33).

I love Miami to get a win at home over the Grizzlies. The -210 price isn’t amazing, but it’s also not terrible for a hot Miami team in a spot where they look like the far better team.

Portland is being dogged in their game against the Clippers, too. I honestly don’t mind the upset here (+195), but there is some nice safety with them ATS. The Clippers have been good against the spread this year, but the Blazers are still going to be a tough out.
