NBA Predictions and Best Bets for Monday, April 19, 2021

| April 19, 2021 7:28 am PDT

The NBA closed out last week with the abrupt retirement of LaMarcus Aldridge, as well as some pretty tense showdowns.

The 76ers edged out the Clippers by three points, the Wizards topped the Pels in overtime, and Julius Randle went off in a big road upset over Dallas.

Through it all, my NBA picks went a solid 4-2. This, despite Damian Lillard being a surprise scratch, and that epic Randle performance rendering my Dallas bet (-4.5) useless.

It was a solid Friday, but I’m looking ahead to more success on Monday. Before I point out my favorite NBA bets, let’s see who is playing on April 19th, 2021.

  • Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Detroit Pistons
  • Chicago Bulls vs. Boston Celtics
  • Golden State Warriors vs. Philadelphia 76ers
  • San Antonio Spurs vs. Indiana Pacers
  • Houston Rockets vs. Miami Heat
  • Phoenix Suns vs. Milwaukee Bucks
  • Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Washington Wizards
  • Memphis Grizzlies vs. Denver Nuggets
  • Utah Jazz vs. Los Angeles Lakers

This looks to be a solid schedule to go to work with, as numerous teams have playoff hopes, or are even still fighting for a top-three seed.

The showdown between the Jazz and Lakers isn’t what it could be, but the battle between the Suns and Bucks in Milwaukee could be epic.

Stephen Curry takes on Joel Embiid in another tense clash, while the Wizards, Bulls, and Grizzlies all continue their push for a playoff spot.

There’s a lot to digest here, but I’ll do the best I can as I unleash Monday’s NBA predictions, top upset picks, and best bets.

NBA Predictions for Monday, April 19th

  • Cavaliers to beat Pistons
  • Celtics to beat Bulls
  • 76ers to beat Warriors
  • Spurs to beat Pacers
  • Heat to beat Rockets
  • Suns to beat Bucks
  • Wizards to beat Thunder
  • Nuggets to beat Grizzlies
  • Jazz to beat Lakers

If you just came here for quick, free NBA picks, hit the list above. These are my game winner predictions for tonight’s nine-game slate.

ATS data, splits, rankings, matchups, and talent are all factored into my NBA predictions, and most of these are fairly self explanatory.

I don’t exactly love every single game for attacking at the top NBA betting sites, of course, which is why I break things down a bit further in the next two sections.

That said, if you just want to know who I am picking to win on Monday, you can go with the nine NBA picks above. For a reference, Friday’s straight up picks went a solid 7-4.

NBA Upsets to Target on Monday

  • Cavaliers (+1.5) -110
  • Suns (+4.5) -110
  • Spurs (+2.5) -110

The three NBA underdogs that stand out on Monday are the Cavs, Suns, and Spurs.

Cleveland is a mild underdog at +1.5, but they probably shouldn’t be. They’re finally at full strength, which gives them much more talent than the tanking Pistons.

Detroit continues to rest key bodies every other day, and they barely beat the Thunder at home in their last game. This line could move, so I’d hop on the Cavs as soon as possible.

Phoenix offers a bit more wiggle room ATS, but they are going to be a really nice price considering how dominant they are.

Yes, they’re on the road, and it’s the Bucks, but Giannis Antetokounmpo has been banged up, and Phoenix is still pressing for a shot at the top record in the NBA.

I love Phoenix against the spread here (7-3 ATS as an underdog), but they’re perfectly viable as a true upset pick.

There’s also the Spurs, who rested a bunch of guys in their most recent game, but should be operating at full capacity come Monday.

Assuming that’s true, San Antonio is still fighting for a shot at the playoffs, and they’re probably the better team now when you compare them to the Pacers.

San Antonio has also been really good (15-10) on the road this year, and they should be at full strength for this one.

Best NBA Bets for Monday, April 19th

  • Cavaliers vs. Pistons Under 213 (-110)
  • Thunder (+11) -110
  • Suns (+4.5) -110
  • Jazz (-5) -110

While I like Cleveland as a straight-up pick on Monday, the preferred bet is actually the Under in their game. The Cavs and Pistons both have suspect offenses, as they come in averaging below 107 points per game.

These teams also just play at a slow pace (22nd and 24th in pace), so this isn’t the game to bet on being a shootout.

OKC isn’t good, but they could get a few bodies back for this shootout with Washington. I think the Wizards win (they’re red hot right now), but it’s impossible to ignore their awful defense, fast pace, and lack of depth beyond their two superstars.

A two-man wrecking crew like that isn’t always reliable, and the Wiz just haven’t been good (7-7 ATS) when favored this year.

I touched on the Suns, but if you don’t have the stomach for backing them as a pure dog on the road against the Bucks, just take a look at that spread. Phoenix is an elite team this season, they’re 17-7 on the road, and they have the second-best mark (35-21) against the spread.

Trusting in the best teams is usually wise, which is why I’ll cap off Monday’s NBA betting picks and predictions with the Jazz.

Utah sat a bunch of guys the last time they faced the Lakers, but with the Suns closing in on first place in the west, I have to imagine they will try a bit harder this time.

L.A. are still without their two superstars, and they’re just 5-9 against the spread as underdogs. I think Utah gets their mojo back in an easy road win.
