NBA Predictions and Best Bets – April 14, 2021

| April 14, 2021 5:32 am PDT

The NBA has been victim to a lot of big-name injuries this season. Fortunately, for the most part, they haven’t been overly serious.

Sadly, Jamal Murray went down with a torn ACL, which instantly hurt Denver’s chances of winning a title. Considering they had solid odds at the best US betting apps, it’s a significant blow.

Naturally, bettors may want to steer clear of the Nuggets on Wednesday and take a wait-and-see approach regarding this situation.

Denver is just one team on the docket on April 14th, of course. See who else is in action.

  • Brooklyn Nets vs. Philadelphia 76ers
  • Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Charlotte Hornets
  • San Antonio Spurs vs. Toronto Raptors
  • New York Knicks vs. New Orleans Pelicans
  • Orlando Magic vs. Chicago Bulls
  • Los Angeles Clippers vs. Detroit Pistons
  • Milwaukee Bucks vs. Minnesota Timberwolves
  • Indiana Pacers vs. Houston Rockets
  • Golden State Warriors vs. Oklahoma City Thunder
  • Dallas Mavericks vs. Memphis Grizzlies
  • Miami Heat vs. Denver Nuggets
  • Washington Wizards vs. Sacramento Kings

Right off the bat, NBA fans and bettors get perhaps the game of the night with the Nets visiting the 76ers. Keep in mind that Brooklyn played yesterday, and you’ll want to monitor potential rest.

Elsewhere, there are 11 other teams in action with serious playoff hopes, while the night is capped off with a tense clash between the Heat and Nuggets.

That last game could be played with a heavy heart if you’re a fan of the Nuggets due to the loss of Murray, of course.

Wondering how to bet on the NBA on Wednesday? Join me for my NBA predictions and best bets below.

Brooklyn Nets vs. Philadelphia 76ers Predictions

  • 76ers to beat Nets
  • Predicted total: 225-230

This has “game of the night” written all over it, provided no key players end up resting.

Brooklyn played on Tuesday, though, so they’d be the team to rest anyone, and they’ll also be without James Harden for a while longer.

The Nets aren’t going to be 100% here, and Philly has been quite good (20-5) at home. In a battle for first place in the east, I’ll side with the healthier team at home.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Charlotte Hornets Predictions

  • Hornets to beat Cavaliers
  • Predicted total: 215-220

Charlotte continues to tread water as they cross their fingers for a LaMelo Ball return. They’re banged up, but hey, they’re the better team in this matchup, they’re at home, and they have the incentive to win.

Cleveland is reeling these days. They’re 3-7 over their last 10, they play slow, and their offense can be like pulling teeth.

The Cavs keep me off the game total, but I think the Hornets are a good bet to get the win at home.

San Antonio Spurs vs. Toronto Raptors Predictions

  • Spurs to beat Raptors
  • Predicted total: 215-220

Toronto is forever mangled. They could get close to 100% for this one, but you just can never tell with them.

The Raptors are just 3-7 over their last 10, and it looks like they won’t be sneaking back into the playoffs.

San Antonio has more to play for here. The Spurs are trending back in the right direction with two straight wins, and they’re a game out of the last spot in the Western Conference playoffs.

I like the Spurs, who have gone an impressive 14-9 on the road, and should be driven to win here.

New York Knicks vs. New Orleans Pelicans Predictions

  • Pelicans to beat Knicks
  • Predicted total: 225-230

The Knicks are barely clinging to the final playoff seed in the east. They’re above .500 for the moment and have won three in a row, but I find it tough to trust them.

I imagine Julius Randle and co. can score on a bad Pelicans defense, but the Knicks are just 11-17 on the road. They’re also not fully healthy, and Zion Williamson has been a man possessed lately.

Williamson is the big sales pitch I need when thinking about betting against the Pels. He is on another level these days, and his stellar play as New Orleans is heating up (won three straight).

I love the Over here, and I think the Pels stay hot as they inch toward a potential play-in game.

Orlando Magic vs. Chicago Bulls Predictions

  • Bulls to beat Magic
  • Predicted total: 220-225

The Bulls host the Magic in a fun “revenge game” for both sides. Nikola Vucevic gets to take on his former Magic crew, while Wendell Carter Jr. faces the team that drafted him, as well.

I think that underlying narrative helps keep this one close, but the Bulls are the better team with more offensive firepower.

Chicago has wilted lately (three straight losses), but this should be a good spot for them to get back on track.

Los Angeles Clippers vs. Detroit Pistons Predictions

  • Clippers to beat Pistons
  • Predicted total: 210-215

The Clippers have been without Kawhi Leonard lately, but he could be a candidate to return here. I’m not sure L.A. really needs him, though, as the Pistons are just awful.

Detroit isn’t even trying to win anymore, as top player Jerami Grant isn’t healthy, and the Pistons have a shot at the #1 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

Even if the Clippers sit some guys, they should be able to come away with the win against an inferior foe.

Milwaukee Bucks vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Predictions

  • Bucks to beat Timberwolves
  • Predicted total: 230-235

It seems the Bucks require a healthy Giannis Antetokounmpo to be good. The team has struggled lately, and they’re now just 4-6 over their last 10 games.

Ideally, The Greek Freak is back on the hardwood if you’re interested in betting on the Bucks, but Minnesota is bad enough that it isn’t required from me.

The pace of this game and the terrible T’Wolves defense also points to the Over being a good secondary bet.

Indiana Pacers vs. Houston Rockets Predictions

  • Pacers to beat Rockets
  • Predicted total: 215-220

Houston continues to display zero intent on winning consistently or really even being competitive.

The Rockets have lost three in a row and are 2-8 over their last 10, and it’s clear they’re playing for a shot at the top pick in the 2021 draft.

Indiana still has a shot at the playoffs, and they have the size to kill Houston down low. The pace and lack of defense promote the Over, but I’d probably just favor the Pacers.

Golden State Warriors vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Predictions

  • Warriors to beat Thunder
  • Predicted total: 220-225

The Dubs still have a shot at making the playoffs, so they’ll likely keep humming along in a winnable spot against a young and banged up OKC squad.

Golden State is seemingly rounding into form after winning their last two games, and it’s nice to see that Stephen Curry has entered God Mode.

He dropped 53 points in his last game, and he’s been on fire for about two weeks now. The Thunder have pretty much zero shot at containing him, but given their 1-9 record over their last 10 games (and six-game skid), I doubt they really want to.

Hammer the Dubs in this one.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Memphis Grizzlies Predictions

  • Mavericks to beat Grizzlies
  • Predicted total: 220-225

Luka Doncic leads his Mavs into Memphis on Wednesday for a surprisingly big battle with Ja Morant and the Grizzlies.

That lead guard showdown is reason enough to tune in here, but both of these teams are in solid form (6-4 over their last 10), and they want to keep winning to hold onto playoff spots.

Dallas is the better team here, and they still can move up quite a bit in the standings. Look to see if Kristaps Porzingis is back in the saddle here, but the Mavs look like an appealing option.

Miami Heat vs. Denver Nuggets Predictions

  • Heat to beat Nuggets
  • Predicted total: 215-220

The Nuggets felt like a fun NBA Finals bet just a day ago, but now they’re set to regress with top point guard Jamal Murray succumbing to a devastating knee injury.

Nikola Jokic will be tasked with creating offense now more than ever, and Denver will become a tougher team to trust moving forward.

The Nuggets are still viable at home against Miami, but the Heat play elite defense and happen to be surging at the moment. With a mild shot at a three seed in the east, look for Miami to get a big road win here.

Washington Wizards vs. Sacramento Kings Predictions

  • Wizards to beat Kings
  • Predicted total: 230-235

The last game of the night should be loads of fun. Washington operates the fastest offense in the NBA, and the Wizards are staying afloat with a 5-5 run over their last 10 games.

Bradley Beal is starting to get healthy, too, so it’s not totally impossible Washington gets hot and worms their way into the east’s play-in series.

The Wizards are a fine try due to that, but neither of these teams are actually trustworthy. The only thing you can bank on is many points, as the pace is fast, and neither team defends worth a lick.

Washington is an okay try, but I’d hammer the Over.

Best NBA Bets for Wednesday, April 14th

  • Magic (+9.5) -110
  • Knicks vs. Pelicans Over 220 (-110)
  • Pacers (-5.5) -110
  • Mavericks (-2) -110
  • Heat (+2.5) -110

As always, feel free to side with my NBA predictions above in reference to moneylines or any bets you simply don’t see listed among my favorite NBA picks.

The best listed above are my top plays for Wednesday, though. Starting with Orlando, I just think the incentive is great there for the Magic to give it a go.

Besides, almost 10 points for a Chicago team that hasn’t played particularly well feels like a lot.

The Knicks slow games down, but the Pels play faster and don’t defend. I’ll take the Over when looking at a pretty palatable 220 game total.

Indy feels like a steal at -5.5 against a bad Rockets team that barely tries anymore. Dallas is my pick in Memphis, and -2 isn’t asking a lot, either.

I’d also look to capitalize on the Jamal Murray situation. Denver will have to adjust to that horrific news, but Miami is also just a good team that is starting to play high-level ball consistently again.

Love or hate my plays for tonight? Let me hear it in the comments below.
