Nashville SC vs. Toronto FC – MLS, June 23, 2021

| June 23, 2021 7:10 am PDT

Although Nashville and Toronto have played 16 MLS games between them this season, they have only managed to accumulate a combined total of three wins. However, that statistic doesn’t tell the whole story.

While the Tennessee team has suffered just one defeat this year, the Canadians have lost five of their opening eight matches in 2021.

The two sides clash at Nissan Stadium this Wednesday, June 23, with tenth-place Nashville sitting six points ahead of twelfth-place TFC in the Eastern Conference standings.

In this match preview, I analyze the teams and discuss the bookies’ odds before providing my Nashville SC vs. Toronto FC prediction. Oh, and make sure you stick around for a couple of betting picks, too.

Can Nashville Avoid Another Loss?

Fresh from tasting defeat for the very first time this season, Nashville will be looking to get back on track when Toronto visits Tennessee.

The Boys in Gold chalked up an impressive seven-game unbeaten streak between mid-April and late May, recording two wins and five draws in the process. But the New York Red Bulls got the better of them last weekend.

In fact, Gary Smith’s men were totally outplayed by RBNY.

Not only did they see 41% of the ball, but they also managed to register just a single attempt on target.

Although scoring goals has been a problem for Nashville this year, they have kept the ball out of their own net on numerous occasions. With four clean sheets to their name, the Boys in Gold boast the third-best defensive record in the East.

That said, Smith’s men have conceded two goals in each of their previous two outings. Is the second-year side’s backline getting weaker?

Toronto Desperately Needs a Win

What the hell has happened to TFC?

I think everybody expected the departure of Greg Vanney to impact the team’s performances this year. Still, I don’t think anyone expected the Reds to win just one of their opening eight MLS games in 2021.

Following a run of one draw and two losses, Toronto finally picked up their first win of the season in Week 4 – beating Columbus 2-0. A draw with New York City came soon after, but three straight defeats have left the club in a real mess.

Having conceded 15 goals already this term, the Canadians have the second-worst defensive record in the East. In fact, they have conceded over 1.5 goals in five of their eight MLS matches this year.

If Armas doesn’t fix Toronto’s leaky backline soon, the Reds could find themselves in an even worse position.

Nashville SC vs. Toronto FC Odds

Nashville SC to Win2.05
The Draw3.45
Toronto FC to Win3.60
Both Teams to Score1.95
Over 2.5 Goals2.15
Under 2.5 Goals1.71

As expected, all the best online sports betting sites are favoring Nashville to win. I mean, the Boys in Gold have only suffered one defeat all season, while the Reds have already lost five times.

I also think the goal markets are worth considering here. TFC has been involved in multiple high-scoring encounters this year, as has Nashville.

My Nashville vs. Toronto Betting Picks

Having assessed both sides, I’m backing Nashville to claim all three points on Wednesday.

Smith’s men have beaten high-flying New England and resolute Austin in their past five games, so they should be able to dispatch struggling Toronto.

  • Pick: Nashville to Win – 2.05

My bonus betting pick for Nashville SC vs. Toronto FC concerns goals.

Following a 3-2 defeat to Orlando last weekend, four of TFC’s eight matches this year have produced over 2.5 goals. With Nashville also conceding more than usual recently, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see at least three goals at Nissan Stadium.

  • Bonus Pick: Over 2.5 Goals – 2.15
