Nashville SC vs. San Jose Earthquakes Prediction (MLS) – Saturday, June 11, 2022

| June 7, 2022 1:49 am PDT

The San Jose Earthquakes will aim to move away from the bottom end of the Western Conference when they face Nashville SC at GEODIS Park on Saturday, June 11.

The Quakes find themselves in thirteenth place after winning just three of their 14 games this season. Meanwhile, Nashville sits sixth – eight points clear of San Jose – having suffered only four defeats in 14 outings.

Nashville SC vs. San Jose Earthquakes Odds

Nashville SC to Win-143
The Draw+280
San Jose Earthquakes to Win+333

As you can see, BetOnline sees Nashville SC (-143) as the heavy favorite to win this one. On the flip side, the San Jose Earthquakes (+333) head into Saturday’s clash as the bookies’ clear outsiders.

The high price for the draw (+280) is bound to attract plenty of attention, given that San Jose has improved recently. That said, the odds for Nashville vs. San Jose highlight the gulf in quality between these two sides.

It’s time to take a closer look at the teams.

Nashville SC Team News and Analysis

Nashville comes into this game on the back of a hugely impressive 3-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids. CJ Sapong opened the scoring after just eight minutes before Hany Mukhtar bagged a brace inside 17 minutes.

Mukhtar already has eight goals and four assists to his name this season. The prolific German has scored four goals across his previous three MLS outings and also scored twice when Nashville drew with San Jose back in April.

Thanks largely to Mukhtar’s goal contributions,
the Boys in Gold have lost just one of their last eight games in all competitions – picking up five wins and two draws along the way.

When you look at the bigger picture, they have lost two of their previous 12 encounters. Having claimed seven wins since the beginning of April, Gary Smith’s boys will be confident of dispatching struggling San Jose.

Only three sides in the West have conceded fewer goals than Nashville this year. Granted, Joe Willis has only managed to keep three clean sheets. But the team from Tennessee has conceded over 1.5 goals on just four occasions.

If players such as Ake Loba and Alex Muyl can help Mukhtar and Sapong in attack, Nashville will be seriously strong at both ends of the field.

San Jose Earthquakes Team News and Analysis

It wouldn’t be unfair to say that San Jose has endured a terrible campaign up to now. I mean, as we approach the midway point in the regular season, the Earthquakes sit on 14 points after 14 games.

No team in the Western Conference has won fewer games than Alex Covelo’s side, while only two teams have suffered more losses. Consequently, the Californians find themselves one point ahead of last-place Sporting Kansas City.

Scoring goals has not been a problem for the Quakes. In fact, only three sides in the entire league have found the back of the net on more occasions this year.

At the opposite end of the field, however, things could not be much worse. Having conceded a whopping 32 goals (2.3 goals per game), San Jose has the poorest defensive record in Major League Soccer.

Jeremy Ebobisse has been a bright spot in an otherwise gloomy campaign for San Jose. The league’s joint-top scorer has netted nine goals this season, bagging braces against Houston, Nashville, Vancouver, and LAFC.

Christian Espinoza (4 goals, 5 assists) and Jamiro Monteiro (3 goals, 4 assists) have also chipped in. But if the Quakes want to move up the standings, they will need to keep the ball out of their own net.

Prediction for Nashville vs. San Jose Earthquakes

This matchup brings together the league’s worst defense (San Jose) and one of the best defenses in the West (Nashville). Still, it is worth noting that San Jose has scored seven goals more than Nashville this year.

Although the Earthquakes have the leakiest backline in the league, they are capable of scoring multiple goals in any given game. Let’s not forget that Ebobisse scored twice when the teams drew 2-2 back in April.

It isn’t difficult to understand why Nashville is the bookies’ favorite, but I can see San Jose getting something from this game. Having lost just one of their last five MLS outings, the Quakes will fancy their chances of causing an upset.

Nashville SC vs. San Jose Earthquakes Betting Pick

  • The Draw

In my eyes, the price for the Nashville win is too low to bother with. Instead, I recommend backing the draw. The Quakes have already held Nashville to a draw this year, proving that they are capable of frustrating the team from Tennessee.
