Nashville SC vs. Minnesota United – MLS, October 6, 2020

| October 5, 2020 1:08 am PDT

Following the weekend’s jam-packed schedule, there is another full MLS fixture list to look forward this week. There are 12 games taking place on Wednesday, but before that, Nashville hosts Minnesota United at Nissan Stadium on Tuesday, October 6.

One defeat in eight outings means Nashville is sitting just inside the final series play-off spots in the Eastern Conference, while the Loons find themselves fourth in the Western Conference.

I discuss the bookies’ odds before providing my Nashville SC vs. Minnesota United prediction and betting pick.

Nashville SC vs. Minnesota United Odds

Nashville SC to Win 2.20
The Draw 3.40
Minnesota United to Win 3.00

It may feel like Minnesota (3.00) is enjoying a far more successful season than Nashville (2.20). But the Loons have played a game more than Nashville, and they only have five more points on the board.

The top online soccer betting sites clearly think that Nashville’s home advantage will have a big impact on the outcome of this game, so much so that the Tennessee club comes into this cross-conference clash as the favorite.

I assess both sides’ chances below.

Nashville SC vs. Minnesota United Preview

Nashville extended their unbeaten streak to three games with a goalless draw against New England Revolution at the weekend and added another point to their ever-growing tally in the process.

The Tennessee team’s sole defeat in their previous eight outings came against conference-leader Columbus Crew at the end of September. But impressive victories over Inter Miami, Atlanta United, and DC United during that period have seen Gary Smith’s side climb up to tenth.

It’s safe to say that Nashville was lucky to come away from Gillette Stadium with a point on Sunday. Smith’s men saw just 34% possession and only managed one shot on target, with New England dominating and racking up 17 attempts. However, the team’s resilience was clear for all to see.

Following a strong start to the season, Minnesota has endured a tricky run of fixtures lately. But after drawing with Real Salt Lake last weekend, a 2-0 victory over Cincinnati on Sunday saw the Loons rediscover some consistency.

Kevin Molino netted his fourth goal in four appearances last time out, with veteran striker Kei Kamara also getting on the scoresheet. Only three teams in the Western Conference have bagged more goals than Minnesota this year, although the Loons have been somewhat goal shy in recent games.

Fourth-place Minnesota is now five points inside the play-off spots, with frontrunner Seattle Sounders five points ahead. Adrian Heath’s men shouldn’t struggle to advance to the final series, but I can’t see them troubling the top teams in the division.

Nashville SC vs. Minnesota United Betting Pick

  • The Draw

Nashville is continuing to grow into their debut MLS campaign. Naturally, the newcomer struggled to adapt to the demands of top-flight soccer at the start of the season. But you only have to look at the odds for this game to see just how far Smith’s men have come.

Minnesota arguably boasts a much stronger squad than Nashville, but it feels like the momentum is with the Tennessee club at the moment. I’m backing the home side to snatch a draw on Tuesday and enhance their play-off ambitions.
