Nashville SC vs. Inter Miami – MLS, May 2, 2021
Phil Neville chalked up his first victory in Major League Soccer last weekend, with Inter Miami coming from behind to beat Philadelphia 2-1 at PPL Park.
Next up, the Herons fly to Tennessee to face Nashville on Sunday, May 2, as Gary Smith’s men aim to extend their unbeaten start to the 2021 MLS season.
You can find my Nashville SC vs. Inter Miami prediction and betting pick below.
Nashville SC vs. Inter Miami Odds
All the top-rated online sportsbooks view Nashville SC (2.00) as the favorite to win this one, leaving Inter Miami (3.60) as the outsider. But as you can see, the bookmakers don’t think Saturday’s game will be a walk in the park for the hosts.
Given that Miami got the better of the 2020 Supporters’ Shield winners last weekend, the visitors can clearly upset the odds at Nissan Stadium.
Let’s see how the two sides have fared during the early stages of the new campaign.
Previewing the Match
Last season, Smith’s side struggled for goals but developed a knack for keeping clean sheets. This year, Nashville looks unrecognizable from the team that made it to the 2020 Conference Semifinals.
The Boys in Gold have kicked off their 2021 campaign with back-to-back 2-2 draws. Funnily enough, they were hardly involved in any high-scoring games during their maiden MLS season.
On a brighter note, Smith’s men have already come from 2-0 down to rescue a point on two occasions this term.
Goals from Jhonder Cadiz and Randall Leal saw Nashville battle back and seal a draw against Cincinnati on the opening weekend. Cadiz initiated the comeback against Montreal last time out, too, before Hany Mukhtar completed the turnaround.
The Boys in Gold gained a reputation for their defensive solidity last year. If their first two games of 2021 are anything to go by, they could struggle to keep hold of that reputation.
The Herons gave a good account of themselves on the opening weekend, only to lose 3-2 to the Galaxy. Having racked up 19 shots, they arguably deserved more.
Neville’s men were faced with a hugely testing matchup against Philadelphia last time out. However, the Higuain brothers rose to the occasion and secured a memorable comeback victory for their side.
Trailing 1-0 with 15 minutes remaining, Federico Higuain assisted Gonzalo Higuain for Miami’s equalizer. Federico then headed home to what proved to be the winner in the 83rd minute.
It goes without saying that Neville’s side will be brimming with belief after overcoming the Union. The team showed great character to turn things around last weekend, with new signings like Gregore and Kelvin Leerdam starring alongside the Higuain brothers.
If the Herons can pick up where they left off in Week 2, they should be able to cause Nashville some problems.
Nashville SC vs. Inter Miami Prediction and Pick
If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Nashville over the past couple of years, it’s that the team knows how to avoid defeat. I mean, Smith’s men have trailed 2-0 in both of their matches this season and managed to seal a draw on both occasions.
I expect Inter Miami to give the hosts a run for their money on Saturday, but I’m confident that Nashville will be able to snatch a point.
