Nashville SC vs. CF Montreal – MLS, April 24, 2021
Did Montreal really beat Toronto 4-2 last weekend? Or am I just dreaming?
Following a pulsating opening weekend of MLS action, Wilfried Nancy’s men find themselves at the Eastern Conference summit. However, they face a tricky test against Nashville on Saturday, April 24.
The Tennessee club came from two goals down to rescue a draw against Cincinnati last time out and will be confident of bursting Montreal’s bubble at Nissan Stadium.
In this Nashville SC vs. CF Montreal betting preview, I look at the odds, assess the teams, and share my prediction and pick.
Nashville SC vs. CF Montreal Odds
As you would expect, Nashville is the favorite to claim all three points on Saturday. Having shown great spirit last weekend, the Boys in Gold will be full of confidence.
Having said that, Montreal will also be brimming with belief. Nobody expected Nancy’s side to beat Toronto in the Canadian Classique, but they put in a stellar performance and proved their doubters wrong.
Before we get to my Nashville vs. Montreal prediction, let’s take a closer look at the teams.
Can Nashville Get the Win?
It’s fair to say that Nashville’s season could not have started any worse. After just 12 minutes, Gary Smith’s men found themselves 2-0 down against FC Cincinnati – arguably the worst team in the league.
But the two early goals clearly served as a much-needed wake-up call for the Boys in Gold.
Jhonder Cadiz pulled a goal back for Nashville on 20 minutes, as the home side continued to produce attack after attack. Following an onslaught of attempts, Randall Leal netted a phenomenal long-range equalizer midway through the second half.
The Boys in Gold weren’t involved in many high-scoring games during their maiden MLS campaign. In fact, they boasted the third-best defensive record in the Eastern Conference last term.
It goes without saying the Nashville will be hoping for a clean sheet this weekend.
Will Montreal Upset the Odds?
Keeping a clean sheet against Montreal would not have been too difficult last season. Even though Nancy’s side crushed Toronto 4-2 on the opening weekend, Nashville could struggle to keep the Quebec outfit at bay.
Having finished ninth in the East last year, many believed that Montreal would continue to slide in 2021. However, if their first match is anything to go by, they will cause their opponents plenty of problems this season.
Nancy’s men didn’t exactly dominate Toronto, but they did make the most of their opportunities. Both sides recorded 12 shots last weekend, with Montreal scoring four goals.
Mason Toye and Romell Quioto scored early in the first half, before Victor Wanyama and Dorde Mihailovic netted after the break.
Nashville’s solid backline is likely to be difficult to break down, but Nancy’s men will now believe they can outscore their opponents.
Nashville vs. Montreal Prediction and Betting Pick
Nashville will undoubtedly be looking to tighten things up at the back after conceding two goals against low-scoring Cincy last time out. With that in mind, I can see Smith’s side sitting deep on Saturday.
At this stage, it is difficult to tell if Montreal’s Canadian Classique victory is a sign of things to come. The team performed well under Nancy, but Nashville poses a completely different threat altogether.
The draw is my Nashville vs. Montreal prediction.
