Napoli vs. Sassuolo – Serie A, November 1, 2020
Napoli suffered only one defeat in the opening five rounds of Serie A, and it was because they didn’t travel to Turin to take on Juventus due to coronavirus cases among Juve’s players. They did win four so far, including the one over Atalanta, while they responded to a loss to AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League with a road victory over Real Sociedad. Napoli is in 2nd place in the league with 11 points, two behind AC Milan.
Sassuolo is one of only three teams without a loss in Serie A (Milan and Juventus) and has been the most pleasant surprise after the opening five rounds. The Black and Greens were on a three-game winning run, in which they scored four goals in each duel, and even though they were 3-1 down against Torino at home in the latest game, Sassuolo managed to snatch a late draw. They are 3rd with 11 points.
Here is my Napoli vs. Sassuolo betting prediction and check the latest news, stats, and H2H record along the way.
Napoli vs. Sassuolo Odds
Napoli Team News and Stats
Only a few expected that Gennaro Gattuso will manage to bring Napoli back to the summit of Italian football, but it seems he is doing a fine job at the moment. Napoli scored eight goals and conceded none in the opening two rounds, while they beat the red-hot Atalanta 4-1, and besides the aforementioned official loss to Juventus, the only black spot on their season thus far is a 1-0 home loss to Alkmaar in the Europa League.
That defeat to AZ was the first time Napoli failed to score a goal at Stadio San Paolo since January this year when they suffered a surprising 2-0 defeat Fiorentina. After that loss, the Parthenopeans scored 2+ goals in each of 11 home matches in Serie A, so we are guaranteed goals and excitement when they welcome Sassuolo.
Gennaro Gattuso will be without Lorenzo Insigne (thigh), while all the other players are healthy and at the coach’s disposal.
Sassuolo Team News and Stats
The most pleasant surprise of Serie A this season, Sassuolo alongside Atalanta, is playing the most exciting games in the league at the moment. Their matches are never boring and scoreless, and they have the most potent attack that scored even 16 goals in five games (one more than Atalanta and two more than Napoli).
Sassuolo is not the team that gives up easily, which they proved in the last two rounds. Namely, they came back from a 3-1 deficit to record an away 4-3 victory over Bologna, while in the previous match, the Black and Greens came from two goals behind to snatch a draw against Torino at home. All of this is a clear signal Napoli will not have an easy job, despite the relatively low odds.
Roberto De Zerbi cannot count on Lukas Haraslin (illness), Jeremy Toljan (illness), and Filippo Romagna (knee), while Gregoire Defrel is questionable to face Napoli with a muscle injury.
Napoli vs. Sassuolo Pick
BTTS YES & Over 2.5 Goals-143
Napoli won six of the previous ten H2H encounters (D4) and suffered only one defeat in 15 all-time meetings with Sassuolo. The Black and Greens managed to score more than one goal against Napoli on just two occasions so far, so their 3+ goals per contest in the previous four matches in Serie A will be tested here.
Nonetheless, I expect goals from each side on Sunday, and that’s why I am going with BTTS and Over 2.5 goals. Both teams scored in eight of the last 11 H2H clashes.
