Napoli vs. Genoa Betting Preview – Serie A, September 27, 2020

The Italian Serie A continues with Matchday 2 over the weekend, and Sunday brings an interesting clash between Napoli and Genoa at Stadio San Paolo in Naples.

Although many expect an easy victory by the hosts, Genoa started the 2020-21 Serie A season with a dominant 4-1 victory over Crotone, so the Griffin head to Naples with high hopes.

Hereof, the Italian Serie A betting action goes on with some tempting odds and markets on Sunday, so here’s my best Napoli vs. Genoa betting pick along with all the tips and team news you need to know.

According to Bovada sports, Napoli is a massive -333 fave to beat Genoa on Sunday, and I cannot argue with the bookmakers. The Blues are legitimate title contenders, while the Griffin should battle against the relegation once more.

Genoa finished the previous season at the 17^th spot of the Serie A standings, only four points above the relegation zone. Napoli was seventh which was a disappointing result, and the Blues should be fired up to make amends this term.

The Blues started the season on the right foot, defeating Parma 2-0 as -225 road favorites. Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne scored a goal each, and these two guys will play important roles for Napoli this season.

Napoli head coach Gennaro Gattuso can be pleased with his team’s performance, especially on the defensive end. They allowed Parma to take just four shots while keeping the ball on their feet for 60 percent of the time.

Genoa, on the other side, thrashed of Crotone in the opener, recording their fourth win over the last five outings at home. They had a 3-1 lead at halftime, while four different players scored for Genoa in this clash.

Anyway, the Griffin have won only one of their previous five road contests along with a couple of draws and losses. Their previous Serie A outing on the road ended in a 5-0 defeat at Sassuolo.

Rolando Maran took Genoa’s helm in the offseason, and it seems he’ll be forcing a 3-5-2 formation. However, against Napoli on the road, that will be more like 5-4-1.

Napoli is undefeated in 16 straight encounters with Genoa, recording 11 wins and five draws in the process. The Blues have covered a 1.5-goal spread in five of those 11 wins over the Griffin, but they earned only a 1-1 tie in their last season’s home matchup with Genoa.

I was surprised by the Blues’ rock-solid defense in the opening week, but I was expecting their offense to dominate. Napoli has a lot of skillful forwards and midfielders who should make the difference against Genoa, so I’m betting on the hosts to win and score at least twice at -180.

Genoa bagged four goals in the opener, but it was against the newcomers Crotone. The visitors will try to keep their net intact in this one, taking a cautious approach, and I don’t trust their defense. Taking Napoli to cover is an intriguing option at -105 odds, but I would rather go with a safety wager.
