Napoli vs. Atalanta Betting Preview – Serie A, October 17, 2020

Napoli opened the new Serie A season with a pair of victories over Parma and Genoa, scoring even eight goals, but then failed to travel to Turin to face Juventus and the Italian FA punished them with a point deduction and awarded a 3-0 win to the Old Lady. Now, Napoli has five points from the first three games and is in the 8th place in the standings.

Atalanta, on the other hand, is alongside AC Milan, the only side with a maximum of nine points from the opening three rounds. The Goddess beat Torino, Lazio, and Cagliari, scoring 4+ goals in each game, and at the moment, they have scored 13 goals. They have a better goal difference than AC Milan and are at the top of Serie A.

Here is my Napoli vs. Atalanta betting pick and check out the latest news, stats, and H2H record along the way.

Napoli vs. Atalanta Odds

Napoli to Win+161
Atalanta to Win+166
Over 3.5+118
Under 3.5-125

Napoli Team News and Stats

Napoli scored 8+ goals in their opening two Serie A matches for the first time in its history and is yet to allow a goal (excluding the aforementioned walkover loss). Looking for their third league win here, it could come via a late goal as five of Napoli’s eight Serie A goals have arrived in the final 30 minutes of games.

Vitally, Napoli is without a loss in eight Serie A home matches (W7, D1), after opening the scoring in six. Goals haven’t been in short supply lately, with 12 of Napoli’s previous 14 Serie A home games providing over 2.5 goals, and six ending 2-1 either way.

Gennaro Gattuso cannot count on Elif Elmas (illness) and Piotr Zielinski (illness).

Atalanta Team News and Stats

Atalanta scaled new heights becoming the first-ever Serie A team to score 4+ goals in all three opening games, and have now won their first three matches of a Seria A season for the first time in their history. As such, Atalanta is well placed to best their last record total after four games – ten points in 2000/01 and 2011/12 – as they are hoping to win their first three Serie A road matches of a new season for only the second time in the club’s history.

Additionally, the visitors didn’t suffer a defeat in three Serie A H2H duels (W2, D1), although the last time they went four (or more) H2Hs unbeaten was back in December 2007. Encouragingly for the Goddess, they are also without a loss in their previous 12 Serie A away matches (W8, D4) including two victories this term. This sequence saw Atalanta retrieve points in five games after allowing first (W3, D2).

Gian Piero Gasperini will be without Mattia Caldara (Achilles tendon), Marco Carnesecchi (illness), Pierluigi Gollini (knee), Matteo Pessina (knee), and Cristiano Piccini (muscle).

My Prediction and Pick

Atalanta is playing with the third-choice goalkeeper at the moment, and that’s why they conceded five goals in the opening three rounds. While defending their own goal is a problem for the Goddess, they are fantastic in the attack and are the highest-scoring team right now, with three goals more than Inter. Napoli also started this season on a high note when it comes to scoring, so I expect to see a lot of action from both teams and goals on both sides. Five of the last seven H2H duels produced goals on both ends and Over 2.5 goals, and I have no doubt that will occur again on Saturday.
