Naomi Osaka vs. Serena Williams – Semifinals, 2021 Australian Open
Naomi Osaka is the young player most likely to take Serena Williams’ torch and dominate female tennis. I’m not sure that the living icon of the sport is ready to go down just yet, though.
Serena has been on the verge of winning another Grand Slam title after the birth of her first child on many occasions but failed in the late stages time and time again. She will be desperate to end this run in the Australian Open 2021, and Osaka stands on her way in the semifinals.
This one has the potential to go down in history, and it should be entertaining to watch. I share my expectations in this Naomi Osaka vs. Serena Williams betting preview that includes the latest odds, my prediction, and a free pick for the match.
Osaka vs. Williams Odds
Not many players are favored by the tennis gambling apps against Serena Williams, but Naomi Osaka is one of the exceptions.
The latest odds for this match suggest the youngster should have a slight edge in this one, and I assume this is based on her recent form.
Naomi Osaka – An Expert on Hard Courts
The tennis world was rocked by Naomi Osaka in 2018 when she won the US Open. The Japanese showed that her maiden Grand Slam title was not a coincidence with a victory in the 2019 Australian Open.
Her early triumph was followed by a tough period that included all sorts of problems on and off the court, but Osaka returned to win the 2020 US Open. The Japanese is yet to enter her primer and looks set to dominate in the foreseeable future.
I’m extremely impressed by what she showed in Melbourne up to this point. Osaka crushed every single opponent, except for Garbine Muguruza. The Spaniard took her to three sets and even had a match point, but she was flying before meeting the Japanese and had to go home after their clash.
The mental strength shown by Osaka in this one was immense and is another testimony that she is ready for the title. Another good sign is that she holds a 2-1 lead against Williams in the head-to-head department.
Serena Williams – Looking for Her Eighth Australian Open Title
It’s hard to imagine that Serena Williams hasn’t won a Grand Slam title since 2017. The legendary American has four finals and a semifinal since, so it’s not like she hasn’t been competitive in the past couple of years.
The problem is that age seems to have caught up with her, and she’s not as dominant as she once was. And yet, Williams is still good enough to reach the final stages of big tournaments, so underestimating her would be a dumb idea.
The American had a solid run so far in Melbourne, winning the first five matches in the 2021 Australian Open somewhat comfortably. Her quarterfinal performance against Simona Halep was especially impressive and deserved a lot of credit.
Serena dominated the world number two, and that should do wonders for her confidence. If she can stay consistent against Osaka, another final in Melbourne is achievable.
Osaka vs. Williams Betting Pick
I believe this one is almost a coin toss, and both players have a chance to progress. That’s why getting +136 for Serena Williams looks like the best betting pick. She certainly can win against Naomi Osaka, so the value is there for the taking.
