Picks for Mountaineer Racetrack Race 6
This is an allowance optional claiming race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of one mile and 70 yards for a purse of $17,800.
I’m sticking with the 2/1 morning line favorite in this race—Levanto, with Luis H. Colon in the irons. This six-year-old gelding finished in the money 23 of his 36 career starts, winning ten of them.
At 15/1, I like Si Es Goya, with Noel Vigil aboard, for a value show bet. This four-year-old gelding moneyed 12 of his 21 starts, winning six of them.
- Win: Levanto 2/1
- Show: Si Es Goya 15/1
Picks for Mountaineer Racetrack Race 7
This is an allowance race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $20,000.
I like the second-favored (7/2) entry in this race–Zafir, ridden by Isaias Ayala. This four-year-old colt moneyed four of his nine career starts, winning two of them. This colt has shown more consistency this year than the morning line favorite has, plus Ayala brings his seven-pound apprentice allowance to the game. Enough to make the difference? I think so.
I like the 15/1 entry here for a value show ticket—Ry’s Revenge, piloted by veteran jockey Andrew Ramgeet. This three-year-old gelding finished in the money twice in his four career starts. He’s performed quite differently depending on his jockey but seems to respond best to firm encouragement.
- Win: Zafir 7/2
- Show: Ry’s Revenge 15/1
Picks for Mountaineer Racetrack Race 8
This is a starter allowance race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of two furlongs for a purse of $17,500.
I like the 8/5 morning line favorite in this race—Shadow Surprise, with Luciano Hernandez aboard. This six-year-old gelding moneyed 13 of his 25 career starts, winning six.
At 20/1, I like Smart N Wicked, ridden by Marco Ccamaque, for a bargain show wager in this race. This three-year-old filly finished in the money six of her ten career starts.
- Win: Shadow Surprise 8/5
- Show: Smart N Wicked 20/1
