Mountaineer Racetrack Picks – Tuesday, December 8, 2020

Mountaineer Casino Racetrack & Resort continues thoroughbred racing week in New Cumberland, West Virginia, on Tuesday with nine maiden, allowance, and claiming matches.
Read on for my Mountaineer Racetrack picks and tips for Tuesday, December 8, 2020.
Picks for Mountaineer Racetrack Race 3
This is a claiming race for fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $7,300.
I’m backing the 1/2 morning line favorite in this race — Sheswildnfree, with veteran jockey Charles Oliveros aboard. This eight-year-old mare finished in the money 32 of her 56 career starts, winning 14 of them.
At 20/1, Stealing Sunshine, with Isaias Ayala in the irons, looks like a good value show bet. This four-year-old filly moneyed ten of her 23 career starts, winning three of them. Plus, she’s got Ayala’s seven-pound apprentice allowance to ease her burden (so to speak).
- Win: Sheswildnfree 1/2
- Show: Stealing Sunshine 20/1
Pick for Mountaineer Racetrack Race 7
This is a claiming race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of one mile for a purse of $7,500.
It may be hard to believe, but a horse with nine money finishes out of 30 career starts (four of them wins) is the 5/2 morning line favorite in this claiming race. That’s right, the five-year-old gelding Starlin, with Noel Vigil aboard, actually has some of the best statistics in this field.
Almost as hard to believe is the fact that I’m backing the second-favored (3/1) Lightning Flash, ridden by Luciano Hernandez. This six-year-old gelding moneyed 32 of his 52 career starts, winning seven of them.
As you might expect, none of the longer-odds entries in this field look like they might finish anywhere near a paycheck, so keep your long money in your pocket.
- Win: Lightning Flash 3/1
Picks for Mountaineer Racetrack Race 8
This is a claiming race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of five furlongs for a purse of $7,500.
I’m going with the second-favored (3/1) entry in this claiming race — Tbtwelve, with Guillermo Rodriguez in the irons. This four-year-old gelding moneyed eight of his 16 career starts, winning five, which puts him marginally ahead of the 8/5 morning line favorite, statistically speaking.
For a good value show bet, I like the 15/1 odds on Everglide Drive, with Yuri Yaranga aboard. This five-year-old gelding finished in the money 13 of his 26 career starts, winning four of them.
- Win: Tbtwelve 3/1
- Show: Everglide Drive 15/1
