Montreal Impact faces New England Revolution in MLS on Wednesday, October 14, with the Revs sitting five points ahead of the Canadians in the Eastern Conference standings.

New England ended New York City’s impressive three-game winning streak last time out, meaning Bruce Arena’s side has only lost one of their previous six outings. Meanwhile, Montreal’s two-game unbeaten streak was brought to an end by Philadelphia Union.

Latest Betting Odds

Montreal Impact to Win 2.60
The Draw 3.60
New England Revolution to Win 2.40

New England (2.40) is the bookies’ marginal favorite to win this one, although the narrow odds gap suggests the leading online betting sites believe Montreal (2.60) stands a decent chance of upsetting the Revs on Wednesday.

There is no denying that New England is the in-form team heading into this clash. But having beaten high-flying Columbus Crew last week, the Impact will be confident of getting something from this game.

Perhaps the draw is the way to go? Let’s take a closer look at both sides.

Previewing the Game

Following four straight defeats, October started brightly for Montreal. A draw with Chicago Fire and a victory over Columbus saw Thierry Henry’s side pick up four points from a possible six at the beginning of the month. But the Impact was outclassed by Philadelphia on Sunday.

The Canadians created plenty of goalscoring opportunities last time out, as they have done throughout the 2020 campaign. But despite Amar Sejdic’s second-half strike, the Impact eventually lost 2-1. It goes without saying that Montreal needs to be more clinical.

Believe it or not, the Quebec outfit has actually won the same number of games as New England this year. But while the Revs have only lost four of their 17 outings, the Impact has lost nine. Montreal’s inability to draw games has seen the club struggle to move up the standings.

On the other hand, New England has been quietly climbing the ladder in recent weeks. The Revs kicked off a four-game unbeaten run last month with a goalless draw against New York City. Funnily enough, Arena’s side beat Montreal 3-1 in their next game with a completely dominant performance.

A victory over DC United and a draw with Nashville followed, but the unbeaten streak was ended by Toronto last week. However, goals from Teal Bunbury and Lee Nguyen saw New England return to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over NYC on Sunday.

The Revs have struggled to compete with the top teams in the Eastern Conference this year, yet they have continued to get the better of the lesser teams in the division. Fortunately for the Revs, it’s fair to say that Montreal is not one of the strongest teams in the East right now.

Prediction and Pick

  • New England Revolution to Win

Following a tricky start to the season, it feels like New England has found some consistency of late. The Revs have won four of their last eight games and have only suffered two defeats in that time.

Montreal appeared to be heading in the right direction after losing four straight games in September. But having claimed a couple of positive results, the Impact returned to losing ways last time out.

This is likely to be a tight game, but I’m backing the Revs to flex their muscles and come out on top.
