Montreal Impact vs. Chicago Fire – MLS, October 3, 2020
Just one point separates Montreal and Chicago in the Eastern Conference as the two sides prepare to face off on Saturday, October 3.
Both teams have struggled for consistency throughout the 2020 campaign. However, the Fire comes into this clash on the back of two straight victories, while the Impact has lost their previous four outings.
I discuss the odds before sharing my Montreal Impact vs. Chicago Fire prediction and betting pick.
Montreal Impact vs. Chicago Fire Betting Odds
Montreal’s marginal one-point lead over Chicago may have fooled the bookies here. Sure, the standings show that Theirry Henry’s side is ahead of the Fire. But there is no denying that Chicago is the in-form team in this matchup.
The Impact hasn’t just lost their last four games; the Canadians have been completely outplayed. Considering this game is being played at a neutral venue, I’m very surprised that Montreal is the favorite to win this one.
Montreal Impact vs. Chicago Fire Preview
Following their Round of 16 exit at the MLS is Back Tournament, Montreal returned to regular-season action with six straight games against Canadian opponents. The Impact managed to claim two victories over Vancouver Whitecaps and even beat Toronto FC during that period, but it’s been all downhill since then.
Henry’s men were thrashed by Philadelphia Union (4-1) before losing to New England Revolution (3-1). Last time out, Montreal was crushed by New York Red Bulls (4-1). Having conceded a combined total of 11 goals in their previous three outings, it’s clear that Henry must tighten things up defensively.
Scoring goals hasn’t been a problem for the Impact. In fact, only the top four teams in the Eastern Conference have scored more. But you won’t be surprised that hear that Montreal has conceded the most goals in the division this term.
Under normal circumstances, a game against Chicago would provide Montreal with a decent opportunity to get back on track. But having picked up some impressive results recently, the Fire won’t make life easy for the Impact.
After holding conference-leader Columbus Crew to a 2-2 draw, Chicago was beaten convincingly by Orlando City. However, back-to-back victories over Houston Dynamo (4-0) and Atlanta United (2-0) prove the Illinois club is capable of challenging the best sides in the country.
Raphael Wicky’s men only managed to win two of their opening 12 games this year, but they have doubled their win tally in a matter of days. It goes without saying that Chicago will be brimming with confidence heading into this clash.
Prediction and Betting Pick
Chicago Fire to Win2.70
It is very difficult to ignore the form book when it comes to picking the winner for this game. Montreal started the season well, but four straight defeats have left the Canadians in a precarious position.
On the flip side, Chicago’s struggles were clear for all to see. But a string of impressive results has suddenly made things look a lot brighter in Illinois. I’m backing the Fire to secure a third successive win this weekend.
