Monmouth Park Picks – Wednesday, October 21, 2020

| October 20, 2020 3:42 pm PDT

Monmouth Park features nine bouts of thoroughbred racing for us today, with some turf races that could get very contentious if some of the also-eligibles (most of which seem to be ridden by Joe Bravo) make it to the starting gate.

I cover the three richest of Wednesday’s races here, but you can always find the entire slate of Monmouth Park races with a visit to one of our top online racebooks.

Read on for my Monmouth Park picks and betting tips for Wednesday.

Picks for Monmouth Park Race 3

This is a claiming race for three-year-olds running a distance of one mile on turf for a purse of $35,000.

If also-eligible Old Dominion with Joe Bravo aboard makes it into this race, then Old Dominion at 5/2 M/L is your winner. This six-year-old gelding moneyed nine of his 13 career starts, winning three. The gelding’s record in 2020 is even more impressive: Six money finishes in six starts, two of them wins.

However, if that doesn’t happen, then go with the 3/1 (turf) morning line favorite, Cheyenne Bull, with Carlos J. Hernandez in the irons. This seven-year-old gelding finished in the money ten of his 23 career starts, winning three of them.

And at 30/1, I like Papa Joel, with Wilmer Garcia aboard, for a value show bet. This five-year-old moneyed 17 of his 33 starts, winning five.

  • Win: Old Dominion (also-eligible) 5/2
  • Win: Cheyenne Bull 3/1
  • Show: Papa Joel 30/1

Picks for Monmouth Park Race 5

This is a claiming race for fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of one mile on turf for a purse of $35,000.

If Joe Bravo is riding the also-eligible Watchin the Wheels (2/1 M/L), then bet them to win. This four-year-old filly moneyed ten of her 18 career starts, winning four of them.

If that doesn’t happen, then my money is on the 5/2 morning line favorite Heading Home, ridden by Hector R. Diaz, Jr. This six-year-old mare finished in the money 11 of her 23 starts, winning four.

At 20/1, I like Risen Change, with veteran jockey Nik Juarez in the irons, for a value show ticket. This three-year-old filly finished in the money 12 of her 20 career starts, winning two.

  • Win: Watchin the Wheels (also-eligible) 2/1
  • Win: Heading Home 5/2
  • Show: Risen Change 20/1

Picks for Monmouth Park Race 8

This is an allowance race for two-year-olds running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $50,000.

I like one of the third-favored (4/1) entries in this race—Singlino, with Jose C. Ferrer in the irons. This gelding moneyed two of his three career starts—both of them wins.

Longest odds in this race are 12/1, but there are three entries the morning line graced with those odds. Of the three, I find only Bringing the Heat, with Carlos J. Hernandez aboard, worthy of a value show bet. This gelding moneyed two of his three starts, winning one.

  • Win: Singlino 4/1
  • Show: Bringing the Heat 12/1
