Monmouth Park Picks – Wednesday, October 14, 2020

| October 13, 2020 3:11 pm PDT

Monmouth Park brings us an eight-race schedule today that includes the ungraded Jersey Shore Stakes as well as the usual maiden, allowance, and claiming races.

While I cover the stakes race and two of the other richest matches at Monmouth today, you can always find the entire daily slate of Monmouth Park races with a visit to one of our recommended online horse racing betting sites.

Read on for my Monmouth Park picks and betting tips for Wednesday.

Picks for Monmouth Park Race 6

This is a maiden special weight race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $47,500.

I like the second-favored (3/1) entry in this race—Malibu Star, with Paco Lopez in the irons. This three-year-old colt placed fourth in his single career start (a bump with Call Me Daddy slowed them both down a year ago at Santa Anita), and though he has not raced since then, he is showing solid performance in recent workouts.

At 30/1, I have to like Blackshear, with Isaac Castillo aboard, for a bargain show ticket. This five-year-old gelding moneyed three of his five career starts.

  • Win: Malibu Star 3/1
  • Show: Blackshear 30/1

Pick for Monmouth Park Race 7

This is an allowance optional claiming race for New Jersey-bred three-year-olds and upward running a distance of 1-1/16 miles for a purse of $62,500.

Even though I’m not impressed with the morning line favorite’s most recent performance, I’m less impressed with his competition, so I’m backing the 3/1 favorite: Crafty Don, with Paco Lopez aboard. This three-year-old gelding moneyed three of his four career starts, with his most recent race a last-place finish at Monmouth Park in September.

I see no longer-odds entries in this race worth the risk.

  • Win: Crafty Don 3/1

Picks for Monmouth Park Race 8

This is the ungraded Jersey Shore Stakes, a race for three-year-olds running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $100,000.

This must be Paco Lopez Day, because I’m backing his mount—the 2/1 morning line favorite, Premier Star—for the win in this stakes race. This three-year-old colt finished in the money four of his six career starts, winning three of them.

And at 30/1, I like Bright Dawn for a bargain show wager. Trainer Ferris Allen has yet to name a jockey, but Bright Dawn has performed well under numerous jockeys, with Carol Cedeno his most frequent pilot. For the record, this three-year-old colt moneyed six of his seven career starts, winning two.

  • Win: Premier Star 2/1
  • Show: Bright Dawn 30/1

More Horse Racing Predictions for Wednesday
