Monday’s NBA Predictions and Best Bets (May 10, 2021)

| May 10, 2021 7:13 am PDT

Just one week of NBA regular season basketball remains. Monday kicks off a seven-day stretch where teams will jockey for position, finalize the top seeds, and try to avoid (or get in?) the league’s controversial play-in tourney.

Right away on Monday, there’s a little bit of everything. Washington continues their torrid run to the Eastern Conference play-in tournament, the Bucks eye the second seed, and the Jazz hope to hold onto the top spot in the west.

A lot can happen between now and next Monday, but bettors can start projecting things (and betting on how they may transpire).

To help you finalize Monday’s bets, let’s dive into tonight’s NBA picks and predictions.

NBA Predictions for Monday, May 10th

  • Hawks to beat Wizards
  • Pacers to beat Cavaliers
  • Grizzlies to beat Pelicans
  • Bucks to beat Spurs
  • Jazz to beat Warriors
  • Blazers to beat Rockets

These games look pretty easy to target at first glance. The toughest one to peg may be the Hawks vs. Wizards game, just because Washington is on fire these days.

Even so, the Hawks are more talented, at home, and could feast with Clint Capela and John Collins down low. The better play is the Over in that game, but I like Atlanta (21-11 at home) to get this one as they eye the fourth seed in the east.

Indy is not a team I trust these days, but the Cavs are even worse. The latter have lost 10 straight, and I wouldn’t be too keen on betting on that drought ending on Monday.

Memphis looks like a good bet to beat a depleted Pelicans team that is without Zion Williamson indefinitely.

Brandon Ingram is sidelined, too, and the Pels are in rough shape right now. Memphis, meanwhile, need to keep winning to ensure they get a spot in the play-in tourney.

I like the Bucks to down the Spurs. They are unlikely to capture the #1 seed in the east at this point, but they’re in a groove (won five straight), and can still get the #2 seed.

Portland over an awful Rockets team is probably the easiest pick of the slate. The only other difficult game to consider is Utah vs. Golden State, but the Jazz are red hot (won five in a row), and still need to keep winning to hold onto first place in the west.

NBA Upset Picks for Monday

  • Wizards (+270)
  • Warriors (+129)

If you look at my straight up NBA picks above, I really don’t love the underdogs on this slate. That said, if you are looking for upside, I do think the Wizards and Warriors are both worth a look.

Washington takes a big hit here, as they’re on the road against a solid Hawks team, and they’re also down Bradley Beal.

Not having a guy who scored 50 points in his last game is a pretty big deal, but Russell Westbrook has been playing out of his mind for weeks. The Wiz are in a groove (7-3 over their last 10), too.

Washington at +7.5 is a way safer play, but this +270 moneyline at BetOnline is awfully difficult to ignore.

Utah is also playing for the #1 seed in the west, so I am expecting them to stay hot (winners of five straight) in a tense showdown with Golden State.

Still, Golden State is very appealing here. Stephen Curry went berserk in his last outing, putting up 49 points in just three quarters.

Chef Curry is cooking with gas these days, and the Dubs are trying to hold onto the 8th seed at the moment. Golden State is a compelling +129 home dog, and they’re a solid 8-7 ATS as home underdogs this year.

I’m on the side of the favorites in general tonight, but if you want to target some NBA upset picks, Golden State and Washington look like the best options.

Best NBA Bets for Monday, May 10th

  • Pelicans (+10) -110
  • Pelicans vs. Grizzlies Over 223.5 (-110)
  • Spurs (+7.5) -110

There aren’t a bunch of games to work with just yet, but I still like three bets right now. Two have to do with the Pelicans game, as their fast pace and lack of defense makes this 223.5 game total feel way too low.

Memphis has the edge down low in this game, but they’re just going to be able to put up a ton of points in this spot in general. New Orleans still has the guard play to push the pace, and I think the tempo is the key to this game hitting the Over.

Pelicans games have seen the Over go 40-28 on the year, so even without two of their best offensive players, I think it’s a solid bet.

New Orleans got a big win on Sunday, and even without their main guys, appear to have some fight in them. I feel stronger about the game total than anything else, but 10 points is a lot for a team that is still fighting to get into the play-in tourney.

San Antonio is also trying to punch their play-in playoff ticket, so I expect them to give a strong effort at home against the Bucks. The Spurs have trended in the wrong direction lately, but they’re 36-30-1 ATS on the season, and 20-15-1 as underdogs against the spread.

Milwaukee has incentive to keep winning, but it’s tough to cover spreads like this on the road. The Bucks (14-17) haven’t been that good at doing so as road favorites this year, either.
