Monday’s NBA Predictions and Betting Tips (May 3, 2021)
The NBA gets going again on Monday, May 3rd. The season is winding down, but teams are still trying to figure out where they stand for the playoffs.
Orlando and Detroit dust the slate off with a meaningless battle early, but every other game on Monday’s NBA betting slate carries some significance.
For advice on how to bet on the NBA tonight, read on for my NBA picks and predictions for Monday, May 3, 2021.
NBA Predictions for Monday, May 3rd
- Pistons to beat Magic
- Wizards to beat Pacers
- Warriors to beat Pelicans
- Blazers to beat Hawks
- 76ers to beat Bulls
- Knicks to beat Grizzlies
- Lakers to beat Nuggets
- Jazz to beat Spurs
Detroit should have their veterans back for Monday’s game, which means they’ll likely be at full strength. I don’t know how much they care about winning these days, but they have all the bodies they need, and they’re at home.
Orlando, meanwhile, are kicking the tires on Ignas Brazdeikis, so they’re pretty desperate.

You could obviously go either way for this game, but I like the Pistons at home.
Washington has been unstoppable (8-2 over their last 10), so I’ll side with them against the Pacers. I also like Golden State, Portland, and New York, but I’ll go over them a bit more in my NBA upset picks section below.
It’s hard to hate the Jazz, either. They are not healthy and their form hasn’t been the best, but they still need to focus on holding onto the top record in the west.
The only potential hiccup here is the Lakers vs. Nuggets game, where we probably want to know if LeBron James and Anthony Davis will both suit up.
Denver has been very determined during a five-game winning streak, but the Lakers have slipped in the standings quite a bit. L.A. could use this as a motivator to get going and finish the season strong.
NBA Upsets to Target on Monday
- Warriors (+1.5) -110
- Blazers (+1) -115
- Knicks (+3) -110
You can roll with my NBA predictions if you want straight up bets worth targeting, and perhaps those picks can give you an idea for how to bet ATS, too.
I am game for these three ATS plays here, but I just love the value in aiming high with Golden State, Portland, and New York as pure underdogs.
New York is arguably the most appealing if you’re talking point spreads, and they’ll also offer the most upside when it comes to the moneyline.
The Knicks have been very good lately. They’re 9-1 over their last 10 games, and they have moved all the way up to fourth in the Eastern Conference with a fantastic April.

A road date with the Grizzlies isn’t exactly easy, but Memphis is banged up and I trust New York’s defense here.
Golden State breezed past the Rockets in their last game, and betting against Stephen Curry is notoriously ill-advised.
Curry and co. get you dog money in a high-octane showdown with a Pels team that plays zero defense. Expect all of the points and a Dubs win here.
Portland also stands out as an elite value. They’re yet another nice road dog to consider backing, as they’re mild underdogs against the Hawks in Atlanta.
A healthy Blazers team is one I don’t mind backing. They’re trending in the right direction again with three straight wins, and they’re still fighting for fifth place in the west.
Best NBA Bets for Monday, May 3rd
- Warriors vs. Pelicans Over 236.5 (-110)
- Knicks vs. Grizzlies Under 217.5 (-110)
In a sense, tonight’s NBA underdog picks also qualify as some of the best NBA bets. I just love all three of those plays, and they just so happen to be priced as underdogs.
You can go with me there, but two relatively safer bets could be these games totals listed here.
The Warriors have to get going offensively, and it’s hard to imagine them struggling in a smash spot against New Orleans. The Pels put up points themselves, but their defense (27th) and the pace from both sides really nudge this thing to the Over.
That game total is pretty wild, so I can totally understand if you’re a bit gun shy. I like to go the other way for this Knicks vs. Grizz game, though.
New York is the opposite of the Pelicans, as they play at the league’s second slowest pace, and they’re also very stingy defensively.
Memphis plays considerably faster than the Knicks, but they’re also pretty strong defensively. I think this is a slow game that easily settles somewhere below 218 total points.
