Monday Night Football Player Props for NFL Week 9 – Patriots vs. Jets

| November 7, 2020 8:54 am PDT

Football betting gods, what, oh what, did we do to deserve this? The NFL has the power to flex scheduling, yet we’re still getting perhaps one of the worst games possible on Monday Night Football.

At least the New England Patriots will probably snap their losing streak when they take on the winless New York Jets. One would think, anyways

No matter what happens, it’s going to be an eyesore. We’re all going to have to bet on it in some capacity just to make it interesting.

If you want to bet on the game itself, you can start your betting research off with a look at our Patriots vs. Jets betting pick. I’ve taken a more entertaining approach and will be handing out my favorite player props for MNF in week nine.

Last week was fantastic for my Monday Night Football player props. Mike Evans scored a touchdown just like I thought he would (+120), Tom Brady threw two touchdown passes (-160), and Ronald Jones II easily topped 9.5 receiving yards (-110).

That gave me three winning bets out of four tries, and I’ll look to keep the good times rolling on Monday.

With that, here are my top player props for MNF in week nine.

Cam Newton to Score a Touchdown (+120)

Newton is on life support as New England’s starter these days. He played better in a game the Patriots could have won last week, but a fumble late in the game (his 8th turnover of the year) proved costly.

As bad as it’s been for Newton, he and his Patriots pals have about as good of a “get right” spot as any this week against the winless New York Jets.

Losing or even playing poorly here in any regard would be official rock bottom, but I expect New England to start their turn around in this spot. Part of that will be getting Newton going, and the matchup works in his favor.

Not only should he have ample opportunity to score in this spot, but the Jets have allowed the 9th most rushing yards to quarterbacks, to go with two rushing scores.

Newton has scored at least one touchdown on the ground in four of six starts in 2020, so there isn’t much stopping him from doing it again in the mother of all must-win games.

Cam Newton Over 1.5 Passing Touchdowns (+115)

Yeah, that’s right, I like two Cam Newton MNF prop bets. It’s somewhat risky, but he’s facing the Jets, for crying out loud.

There has been some evidence that Newton is washed, but he’s also had a tougher than advertised schedule, he missed time with COVID-19, and New England has been depleted in the passing game.

All of that gets cured on MNF, as the Jets are not a scary matchup. Patrick Mahomes dropped five passing scores on New York last week, and while Newton obviously isn’t Mahomes, this is his moment to shine.

I like the value with both of these Cam Newton props. You can pick one or the other, but I see a three-score night coming with two through the air, and a third on the ground. Targeting both isn’t silly.

Damien Harris Under 75.5 Rushing Yards (-133)

I actually like the matchup for pretty much every Patriots player, but we need to consider two things

First, that Newton will naturally siphon some of the production Harris could get, and second, that Sony Michel could be back this week.

Pivot to the Over (EVEN) if news breaks that Michel won’t play or will be really limited. However, if the backfield is going to be a little extra crowded, I can’t give Harris a vote of confidence for such a high rushing yardage total.

There are several Monday Night Football player props to love, and if Michel is back, this is one of them.

Jakobi Meyers Over 3.5 Receptions (-125)

There is a second bet for Meyers to top 45.5 receiving yards (-115) and I’m fine with targeting that, as well. However, I’d rather just bet on his catch volume, as he historically isn’t a huge big-play threat.

New England is mangled at wide receiver. N’Keal Harry missed week eight with a concussion and has been bad, Gunner Olszewski just went on injured reserve, and Julian Edelman is also sidelined with an injury.

There just aren’t many options to work with here.

That said, the Pats are facing the Jets and Meyers has a role right now (16 targets over the last two games). Oh, and if you were worried about the arrival of Isaiah Ford, don’t be. He isn’t playing on Monday.

LaMical Perine Under 45.5 Rushing Yards (-115)

Lastly, we should feel pretty good about Perine getting under 46 rushing yards this week. New England actually is a really good matchup for running backs so far in 2020, but I expect their defense to play better in such a plus situation.

Perine has to worry about splitting touches with Frank Gore, and with the Jets likely falling behind early, you’d think at some point New York will abandon the run.

There’s also the case of Perine simply not producing much. His touches tend to be rather limited, but the guy has literally failed to top this rushing yardage mark in every single game. I don’t see why the trend would change in week nine.

This game looks pretty ugly at first glance, but if you’re a fan of the Patriots, you should be pretty excited.

New York is clearly tanking to get Trevor Lawrence at this point, too, so I imagine Jets fans are just shrugging their shoulders left and right these days.

While betting on the game itself has its risks, I think you can potentially find some solid paths to winning bets via the Monday Night Football player props above.

Hopefully, these prop bets find you well. If you’re reading this before Sunday’s action, check out the following for more week 9 NFL betting insight.
