MLS Predictions, Betting Tips, and Picks for Sunday, March 13 (2022)

| March 11, 2022 4:37 am PDT

There are two Major League Soccer games on Sunday, March 13. First up, Atlanta United welcomes newcomer Charlotte FC to Marcedes-Benz Stadium. In the late kick-off, the New York Red Bulls lock horns with Minnesota United.

In this post, I will be providing my predictions for Sunday’s MLS games. Once my predictions are out of the way, I will share my betting pick for both clashes. If you like the sound of that, I suggest you keep reading!

Atlanta United to Beat Charlotte FC

The Five Stripes kicked off their 2022 campaign with a dominant 3-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City. Goals from Luiz Araujo, Dom Dwyer, and Caleb Wiley ensured that Atlanta made a winning start to the season.

However, Gonzalo Pineda’s boys suffered a 3-0 defeat to Colorado last time out. Despite enjoying 64% possession and racking up 12 shots, they were put in their place by the Rapids.

It is also worth noting that Miles Robinson was sent off last weekend. That means the USMNT center-back is suspended for Week 3 after picking up two yellow cards.

Still, the Five Stripes will be confident of returning to winning ways on Sunday. If they can replicate the performance that saw them dispatch Kansas City a fortnight ago, they will almost certainly get the better of Charlotte.

It is no real surprise that Charlotte heads into Week 3 on the back of two straight losses. I mean, it was always going to be difficult for the MLS newcomers to adapt to the league.

The debutants suffered a 3-0 loss to DC United in their first game before losing 1-0 to LA Galaxy last time out. Not only have they conceded four goals already, but they have also failed to score a goal of their own.

I expect the North Carolina outfit to improve as the season goes on, but I’m confident that Atlanta will claim all three points in front of a big home crowd on Sunday. The home win is my Atlanta United vs. Charlotte FC prediction.

New York Red Bulls to Beat Minnesota United

As we head into Week 3, the Red Bulls are one of only four teams with a 100% record. Consequently, they find themselves atop the Eastern Conference after two games.

Gerhard Struber’s side beat San Jose 3-1 on the opening weekend, thanks to goals from Patryk Klimala, Omir Fernandez, and Tom Barlow. Last weekend, however, it was all about Lewis Morgan.

Morgan blew Toronto away with a first-half hat-trick in Week 2. The Scottish winger managed just seven goals in 58 appearances for Inter Miami. Following his offseason switch, he already has three goals in two games for RBNY.

Meanwhile, Minnesota played out a 1-1 draw with Nashville last weekend. Despite dominating large spells of the game, the Loons required a late equalizer from Hassani Dotson to snatch a point.

Funnily enough, Adrian Heath’s men registered a 1-1 draw on the opening weekend, too. Robin Lod opened the scoring against Philadelphia before Cory Burke equalized for the Union.

Although Minnesota has yet to taste defeat this year, RBNY has already notched a couple of high-scoring wins. For that reason, the home victory is my New York Red Bulls vs. Minnesota United prediction.

Best MLS Bets for Sunday, March 13

That’s it for Sunday’s MLS predictions. But I’m not finished just yet. Let’s wrap things up by checking out the top MLS picks for Sunday, courtesy of the best Major League Soccer betting sites.

  • Atlanta United vs. Charlotte FC – Atlanta United to Win and Keep a Clean Sheet (2.80)
  • New York Red Bulls vs. Minnesota United – New York Red Bulls to Win and Over 2.5 Goals (2.63)

If you’re looking for a safe MLS bet, backing Atlanta to beat Charlotte is the wager for you. However, the Five Stripes are priced at 1.57 to win on Sunday. I think we can do better than that!

I recommend adding the clean sheet market onto the Atlanta win to enhance the odds. Let’s not forget that Pineda’s side achieved a shutout in Week 1. On top of that, Charlotte has yet to open its MLS account.

Meanwhile, RBNY is priced at 1.62 to beat Minnesota. Since the Red Bulls netted over 2.5 goals in each of their first two games, I can see them securing another high-scoring victory on Sunday.
