Predictions and Best Bets for MLS Games on Saturday, September 11, 2021

| September 8, 2021 11:14 am PDT

There are 13 MLS games taking place this week, ten of which go down on Saturday, September 11. With important battles everywhere you look on the schedule, we are set for another thrilling weekend of Major League Soccer action.

Before we get stuck into my MLS predictions for September 11, let’s take a quick look at Saturday’s fixture list.

  • Colorado Rapids vs. LA Galaxy
  • Seattle Sounders vs. Minnesota United
  • New York Red Bulls vs. DC United
  • New England Revolution vs. New York City FC
  • CF Montreal vs. Nashville SC
  • FC Cincinnati vs. Toronto FC
  • Inter Miami vs. Columbus Crew
  • Sporting Kansas City vs. Chicago Fire
  • FC Dallas vs. San Jose Earthquakes
  • Houston Dynamo vs. Austin FC

Conference leaders Seattle and New England face tough tests this weekend, coming up against Minnesota and New York City, respectively.

Elsewhere, Houston and Austin go head-to-head for the Texas bragging rights in the late kick-off, but not before the Rapids and the Galaxy face off in a vital top-four clash.

Not only do I share my predictions for all of Saturday’s MLS games below, but I also give you my top MLS betting picks for September 11.

If that sounds good to you, let’s get going. What better place to start than with my Colorado Rapids vs. LA Galaxy prediction?

Colorado Rapids to Beat LA Galaxy

Second-place Colorado leads fourth-place LA Galaxy by five points in the Western Conference. It is worth pointing out, however, that Colorado has a game in hand over Greg Vanney’s side.

In fact, the Rapids have games in hand over all their main rivals in the West. If they extend their seven-match unbeaten streak on Saturday, they could leapfrog first-place Seattle and find themselves atop the standings.

Robin Fraser’s men have only lost one of their previous 12 outings, picking up seven wins and four draws along the way. On the flip side, Vanney’s men have managed to win just one of their last five games – recording two draws and two losses in the process.

When you consider the contrasting form of these two sides, Colorado should win this one.

Seattle Sounders and Minnesota United to Draw

Having lost just four of their 22 MLS game this year, the Sounders remain one point clear at the Western Conference summit. However, each of those four losses have come in their past nine outings.

Let’s not forget that Minnesota was the first team to beat Seattle in 2021, registering a 1-0 victory at Allianz Field in July. Following the Sounders’ 2-0 loss to Portland last time out, the Loons will fancy their chances of upsetting Seattle once again.

Sitting 11 points behind the Sounders, Minnesota could struggle to secure back-to-back wins over the Washington club. That said, Adrian Heath’s men have only lost one of their previous nine games, so I can see them snatching a point on Saturday.

DC United to Beat New York Red Bulls

Not only have the Red Bulls won just one of their last nine matches, but they have also lost five of their previous seven.

As a result, they currently find themselves third from bottom in the Eastern Conference – eight points shy of seventh-place DC United.

Following a terrible 1-0 defeat to Chicago, RBNY head coach Gerhard Struber is walking on thin ice.

DC United, meanwhile, sealed a hugely impressive 3-1 victory over Philadelphia last time out. Ola Kamara hit the net once again, taking his tally to 12 goals in 16 MLS appearances this season.

Although the Black-and-Red have lost three of their past four games, they have picked up four wins in their previous eight. With that in mind, I’m backing DC to beat struggling RBNY.

New England Revolution to Beat New York City FC

Having secured another win against the Union last weekend, New England now sits 14 points clear at the top of the Eastern Conference. The Revs have only suffered four defeats all year, winning 16 of their 24 matches.

Even with Poland striker Adam Buska away on international duty, Bruce Arena’s men were able to beat one of the strongest teams in the league. That isn’t good news for New York City.

The Boys in Blue have struggled lately, winning just two of their last seven games in all competitions. Worse still, they have lost two of their previous three MLS outings – going down 3-1 to Nashville last time out.

I expect NYCFC to put up a decent fight on Saturday, but I’m confident New England will get the job done.

Nashville SC to Beat CF Montreal

Both Montreal and Nashville have only lost one of their last five matches. Of course, that is a great achievement. But it doesn’t tell the full story.

When you look at the bigger picture, Gary Smith’s men have suffered just one defeat in their previous 14 outings. Better still, they have only lost two of their 22 MLS games in 2021 – racking up nine wins and 11 draws along the way.

By contrast, Montreal has registered seven losses in 22 matches this season. Although the Canadians have beaten the likes of RBNY and Toronto in recent weeks, I can’t see them avoiding defeat this weekend.

FC Cincinnati to Beat Toronto FC

The bottom two teams in the Eastern Conference go head-to-head at TQL Stadium on Saturday, hoping to restore some pride. Last-place Toronto trails second-bottom Cincinnati by two points, with the Red Bulls leading Cincy by a further five points.

Cincy heads into Saturday’s clash on a three-game losing streak, while the Reds have lost each of their last four matches. In fact, the two sides have played a combined total of 43 MLS games this year – and they have only managed to claim three wins apiece.

Jaap Stam’s men have failed to win any of their nine home matches in 2021, notching five draws and four losses in the process. But they have to win on home soil at some point, right?

In my eyes, the visit of TFC provides Cincy with the ideal opportunity to taste victory at TQL Stadium for the very first time. It wouldn’t be a pretty affair, but I’m backing the hosts to come out on top.

Inter Miami to Beat Columbus Crew

Inter Miami’s remarkable resurgence has seen them take more points than 11 of their 13 Eastern Conference rivals across the past ten games. Consequently, they now find themselves just a single point behind Columbus.

While the Herons have claimed 18 points from a possible 30, the Crew have only managed to accumulate seven points during the same period. Remarkably, the defending MLS Cup champions have lost seven of their last eight matches!

Gonzalo Higuain has chalked up eight goals and three assists this year, underlining his ability. With guys like Rodolfo Pizarro and Brek Shea also chipping in recently, Inter Miami looks set to heap more misery on faltering Columbus.

Sporting Kansas City to Beat Chicago Fire

Sporting Kansas City and Chicago Fire clash for the only cross-conference matchup on Saturday. The Wizards sit third in the West on 40 points, while the Fire are eleventh in the East with 23 points to their name.

SKC was hammered 4-0 by LAFC last weekend, ending a run of six MLS games without defeat.

Still, it is worth remembering that Peter Vermes’ men have only lost two of their previous 13 league matches – sealing six wins and five draws in that time.

Meanwhile, the Fire picked up a 1-0 victory over RBNY last time out. They have managed to win just three of their past ten outings, however, recording three draws and four losses on that run.

With Daniel Salloi (12 goals, 6 assists) and Alan Pulido (8 goals, 2 assists) in red-hot form, the Wizards should dispatch Chicago without any problems.

FC Dallas and San Jose Earthquakes to Draw

Eleventh-place Dallas and tenth-place San Jose are separated by just a single point in the Western Conference. In fact, there has been very little between the teams all season. Both sides have claimed six wins in 2021, while their goal differences are almost identical.

Although the Earthquakes have only lost one of their last 11 games, they have registered a whopping seven draws in that time. Having struggled to turn draws into wins throughout the campaign, it won’t be easy for them to secure all three points at Toyota Stadium.

I’m confident that San Jose will come away from Dallas with a draw, though. I mean, the Toros aren’t likely to cause the Quakes too many issues, having lost three of their past five outings.

Austin FC to Beat Houston Dynamo

Just over a month ago, Austin hosted Dynamo at Q2 Stadium. The hosts managed to clinch a 3-2 victory on that occasion, with Tomas Pochettino bagging a brace in front of a raucous home crowd.

If the Dynamo’s current run is anything to go by, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Texas newcomers claimed back-to-back wins over their neighbors.

Following a 2-0 loss to Portland, Houston’s winless streak now stands at a mammoth 16 matches. Tab Ramos’ men have recorded eight draws and eight losses since they last tasted victory – and that was all the way back in May!

Granted, Austin sits level with Houston on 19 points. But after picking up a couple of wins across the past month, Los Verdes will be confident of overcoming the Dynamo again.

My Best MLS Bets for Saturday, September 11

Having scoured the best Major League Soccer betting sites, I have found three top MLS picks for Saturday, September 11.

Two of my MLS picks concern in-form teams winning on the road, while the other one focuses on the total number of goals scored between Seattle and Minnesota.

Seattle Sounders vs. Minnesota United

Seattle (1.75) is the bookies’ favorite to beat Minnesota (4.00), while the draw is priced at 3.80. I know I predicted that this game would end on level terms, but the draw is always a risky bet.

Instead, I recommend backing under 2.5 goals. 13 of Minnesota’s 21 games have produced less than three goals this year (62%), so I expect this match to be a low-scoring encounter.

  • Pick: Under 2.5 Goals (2.00)

New York Red Bulls vs. DC United

The Red Bulls are in a real mess at the moment. As we know, they have only managed to win one of their last nine games – and they have lost five of their previous seven.

DC United returned to winning ways with an emphatic 3-1 victory over Philly last time out, meaning they will be full of confidence. If they can pick up where they left off against the U, they should beat RBNY with ease.

  • Pick: DC United to Win (3.50)

CF Montreal vs. Nashville SC

I can’t get over the fact that Nashville has only suffered two losses in 22 games this year. Not only do Smith’s men boast the best defensive record in the East, but they are also the second-highest scorers in the division.

On the flip side, Montreal has won just two of their last nine matches. They have also conceded far more goals than Nashville, so I can see the Tennessee team leaving Canada with all three points this weekend.

  • Pick: Nashville SC to Win (3.00)
