MLB Predictions and Best Bets – September 22, 2020

| September 21, 2020 11:55 am PDT

The 2020 MLB playoffs start in a matter of weeks, but there are still some teams wrapping up their playoff spot, and others looking to play the role of spoiler.

It should make for a fun stretch, especially with some teams playing the best baseball of the year right now.

Due to all of the scheduling snafus this year, Tuesday offers a fun 16-game slate. There is a lot to consider in terms of baseball betting, but I’ve got my eye on these games in particular.

  • Brewers vs. Reds
  • Marlins vs. Braves
  • Yankees vs. Blue Jays
  • Orioles vs. Red Sox
  • Rangers vs. Diamondbacks
  • Rockies vs. Giants

These six MLB games stand out as exploitable spots at the best MLB betting sites. Join me as I go over my MLB predictions and top betting picks to see why.

Brewers vs. Reds Predictions

  • Reds to beat Brewers
  • Predicted total: 8-8.5

Milwaukee is trending in the right direction, but they don’t have things easy for them on the road against Sonny Gray and the Reds. Gray could completely shut them down in this spot, while I tend to favor Cincy’s right-handed bats against Brett Anderson, too.

The power and park involved lean things toward the Over, but the Reds to win is the best play here.

Marlins vs. Braves Predictions

  • Braves to beat Marlins
  • Predicted total: 8-8.5

Atlanta gets a nice home game against the beatable fish on Tuesday, and things look even easier with the middling Jose Urena (6.00 ERA) toeing the rubber for Miami.

I expect the Braves to be pretty busy on offense in this one, while Cole Hamels could slice up this Marlins offense on the other side.

Yankees vs. Blue Jays Predictions

  • Yankees to beat Blue Jays
  • Predicted total: 9-9.5

New York continues their hot tear, and they’ll hope to get another game closer to the Rays atop the AL East. You have to love their chances on offense against Tanner Roark tonight, but even if they can’t get it going, Gerrit Cole should set the tone defensively.

Orioles vs. Red Sox Predictions

  • Orioles to beat Red Sox
  • Predicted total: 10.5-11

Boston is always a threat at home, and they could unleash a fiery blaze on Keegan Akin. That said, I really like Baltimore in this spot. Nick Pivetta has not been good for some time now, and his contact issues could spell doom at Fenway Park.

Rangers vs. Diamondbacks Predictions

  • Diamondbacks to beat Rangers
  • Predicted total: 9-9.5

Jordan Lyles takes the ball for Texas tonight, as he’ll try to fend off the Diamondbacks on the road. Normally that’d be a great spot, but he’s been horrendous in 2020.

We can’t trust Lyles, while the Rangers haven’t been any better on offense. Hammer the D’Backs and the Over in this one.

Rockies vs. Giants Predictions

  • Rockies to beat Giants
  • Predicted total: 8-8.5

One more game I’ll gladly target is this NL West clash in San Francisco between the Giants and Rockies. Betting on the Rockies to win road games usually goes poorly, but they have the righty power to give Drew Smyly fits.

I like Colorado to get a win here, and the pitching may be weak enough to point things to the Over.

Best MLB Bets for Tuesday, September 22nd

  • Reds to Win (-144)
  • Brewers vs. Reds Over 8 (-115)
  • Orioles to Win (-102)
  • Diamondbacks to Win (-132)
  • Rockies to Win (+112)

Per usual, you can run right down the list of my MLB predictions and bet accordingly, and some of those wagers also happen to be my favorite MLB picks for the day.

Cincinnati has Sonny Gray toeing the rubber at home, so they feel like a nice value at -144. That game is still in a hitter’s park, though, so even with Gray there, I like the Over.

Baltimore is a fun bet at Fenway, so I’m game for them at -102, and Arizona has a great matchup at home. My favorite upset play is the Rockies, as they have a terrific matchup, and are a solid +112 price.
