MLB Predictions and Best Bets – September 15, 2020

| September 14, 2020 9:15 am PDT

Every day is a good day to bet on baseball, and Tuesday is no different with a huge 15-game MLB schedule coming at us. The key, of course, is to know which spots to attack, when, and how.

That’s what I’m here for, as betting on every single MLB game isn’t always the best route to take. I prefer to condense things and focus on the best situations where I can maximize MLB betting value.

To do that, I’ll look at these specific games for Tuesday’s action.

  • Nationals vs. Rays
  • Blue Jays vs. Yankees
  • Mets vs. Phillies
  • Royals vs. Tigers
  • Athletics vs. Rockies
  • Cardinals vs Brewers
  • Indians vs. Cubs
  • Dodgers vs. Padres

As it turns out, I like eight games to target for Tuesday, which is roughly half of the contests available to us. There’s a lot to like, but I’ve narrowed things down a bit.

Join me as I break down Tuesday’s MLB predictions and top betting picks.

Nationals vs. Rays Predictions

  • Rays to beat Nationals
  • Predicted total: 8-8.5

The Nats see a park downgrade when they take on the Rays on Tuesday, and they’ll be bringing Anibal Sanchez (2-4, 6.81 ERA) with them.

This feels like a great spot for Tampa Bay, as they’re still trying to hold onto first place in the AL East. I doubt they lose this one at home.

Blue Jays vs. Yankees Predictions

  • Yankees to beat Blue Jays
  • Predicted total: 9-9.5

New York is on fire right now (five wins in a row), and they’re back at Yankee Stadium. The Yanks don’t have amazing pitching here and still aren’t healthy, but I think they can beat up on Taijuan Walker.

Mets vs. Phillies Predictions

  • Mets to beat Phillies
  • Predicted total: 8-8.5

We have the opposite of a pitcher’s duel at Citizens Bank Park, as two extremely hittable pitchers in Rick Porcello and Jake Arriet face off. I like the Mets with the big park upgrade, with the Over looking like a fun secondary bet.

Royals vs. Tigers Predictions

  • Royals to beat Tigers
  • Predicted total: 9-9.5

Matthew Boyd got destroyed in his last start and continues to have major long ball problems. He’s back home against a beatable Royals lineup, but this feels like an awesome spot to bet on KC.

If the Royals can get to Boyd early, they could easily run away with this one.

Athletics vs. Rockies Predictions

  • Athletics to beat Rockies
  • Predicted total: 11.5-12

Oakland sees a massive park upgrade on Tuesday, as they head into Coors Field. Antonio Senzatela isn’t the worst arm, but he’s hopeless in his plight to tame this elite fly ball offense.

Cardinals vs Brewers Predictions

  • Cardinals to beat Brewers
  • Predicted total: 8-8.5

Milwaukee just got no-hit by Alec Mills, of all people. It was embarrassing, especially since Kenta Maeda nearly accomplished the same feat against them not too long ago.

Jack Flaherty could ice them just as much, which naturally plays into a likely St. Louis victory.

Indians vs. Cubs Predictions

  • Cubs to beat Indians
  • Predicted total: 8-8.5

We get a fun one at Wrigley Field on Tuesday, as well as an elite pitcher’s duel. Yu Darvish (1.77 ERA) has been awesome all year, while Carlos Carrasco has the ability to make the Cubs look silly.

Carrasco isn’t very reliable on the road, though, and the Cubs have been the better team on the year. I trust Yu more in this spot, but the collective pitching still has me loving the Under.

Dodgers vs. Padres Predictions

  • Dodgers to beat Padres
  • Predicted total: 8-8.5

The last game on my list may be the game of the night, as the Dodgers and Padres continue to duke it out for first place in the NL West.

San Diego has the better matchup on paper and they’re at home, but this loaded Dodgers offense could ruin Zach Davies. I tend to think they do just that.

Best MLB Bets for Tuesday, September 15th

  • Rays (-1.5) +105
  • Yankees (-1.5) +115
  • Mets to Win (-118)
  • Royals to Win (+102)
  • Royals vs. Tigers Over 9 (+105)
  • Cardinals to Win (-147)

As you can see, I like a lot of MLB bets for Tuesday’s slate. I honestly like even more than what I’m listing here, and you can target a few other bets by just going with my MLB predictions above.

However, I believe in condensing things and gathering a pool of limited picks that you feel really good about, so I’ll cap things off with my six best MLB bets for the day. Usually I leave it at 3-5, so you’re getting a little more to work with here.

That said, the Rays and Yanks to win by two at home gets you underdog money. I have those teams winning, so I say go the extra mile and back them to win by two runs or more.

New York gets a park boost against a beatable arm. You can push it to the RL (+130) there, as well, but for that one, I like the moneyline just fine.

Kansas City is my favorite true underdog pick of the day. I think they beat Matthew Boyd into oblivion. The Over for that game is also priced very nicely at +105, and I am all for it.

Lastly, St. Louis has a distinct pitching edge against Milwaukee. The value isn’t amazing, but -147 for the Cardinals in this spot feels pretty good, and reasonably safe.
