MLB Predictions and Best Bets – October 2, 2020

| October 2, 2020 8:15 am PDT

The 2020 MLB playoffs already got hit by some weather, as game two of the Marlins vs. Cubs series got PPD and will hit the ground running on Friday.

That at least pushes things back a bit, and if Chicago can tie things up, we’ll even get some weekend baseball.

They’re joined by one more series looking to wrap things up. Here’s what’s on the docket for MLB bettors today.

  • Cubs vs. Marlins
  • Cardinals vs. Padres

Miami won game one, and Chicago has a chance to stave off elimination and push this thing into the weekend. San Diego rallied last night to force a game three, creating a tense situation between the Cardinals and Padres.

Wondering how to bet? Read on for today’s MLB predictions and top betting picks.

Cubs vs. Marlins Predictions

  • Cubs to beat Marlins
  • Predicted total: 7-7.5

This game got pushed back, which can be seen as a positive or a negative. The good thing is the Cubs are still pushing Yu Darvish (8-3, 2.01 ERA) out there, and he looks like a lock to excel in this matchup.

Non-Cubs fans want nothing more than to see Chicago fail against the Marlins of all teams, but that wish will have to be delayed at least one day. I like Chicago here, and the high quality pitching favors the Under.

Just keep an eye on the winds for today. If it’s gusty and blowing out, the Over could be a sneaky bet.

Cardinals vs. Padres Predictions

  • Cardinals to beat Padres
  • Predicted total: 8-8.5

The Padres looked like they’d be heading home in game two of their series with St. Louis, but they snapped out of their funk and stormed back out of a 5-2 hole.

All of San Diego’s top bats showed up for this one, reminding us that the Padres are never truly out of any game. That makes them a tough team to bet against here, but Jack Flaherty is a tough matchup.

It’s by a hair, but I like the Cardinals to win. That said, San Diego’s offense and the suspect pitching from the Padres’ side points to the Over.

Best MLB Bets for Friday, October 2nd

  • Cubs (-1.5) +105
  • Cubs to Win (-193)

There isn’t any pricing up for the Padres game just yet, but you can lean on my MLB predictions there, where I like the Cards to win, and the total to go Over.

Chicago’s game total (7) is a bit too tight to go after. Yu’s presence suggests the Under, but it just won’t be a bet I really suggest targeting. I do love the Cubs to win here, but a -193 price tag is admittedly a bit thick.

Go the extra mile and bank on Chicago coasting in this spot, as Darvish should batten down the hatches defensively, and I think the Cubs can show up enough on offense in this one.
