MLB Predictions and Best Bets – October 15, 2020

| October 15, 2020 12:12 am PDT

The Los Angeles Dodgers were in trouble, looking into an 0-2 hole in the NLCS. They responded, with their bats coming out early and racing to a 15-3 win.

Houston also kept it together despite going down 0-3 in their series, and we suddenly have at least one more day with two MLB playoff games.

Here’s the schedule for today if you plan on betting.

  • Rays vs. Astros (5:07 pm ET)
  • Dodgers vs. Braves (8:08 pm ET)

Houston is admittedly on life support, but it’s tough to count one of the most talented offenses in baseball out. L.A., meanwhile, could have Clayton Kershaw back, and their offense has generated 22 runs over their last two games.

With the Dodgers eyeing a 2-2 tie, and the Astros trying to make this a series, Thursday could be a fun night to bet on baseball. My MLB bets went a stellar 4-0 yesterday, so join me for more success in today’s MLB predictions and top betting picks.

Dodgers vs. Braves Predictions

  • Dodgers to beat Braves
  • Predicted total: 9-9.5

Clayton Kershaw is expected to start following a scratch going into game two.

His team rebounded nicely, as they now have a shot at evening things up on Thursday.

Bettors have to wonder if “Playoff Kershaw” shows up and is a problem here, but so far he’s looked good during the postseason. With L.A.’s bats looking rather spry and a date with a bullpen game, it’s hard not to love the Dodgers here.

Rays vs. Astros Predictions

  • Astros beat Rays
  • Predicted total: 8-8.5

It’s unknown who will pitch for either side in this crucial game five between the Rays and Astros. That makes it very difficult to make a pick for this bet, even though there are odds out.

Tampa Bay’s pitching probably has the edge at this point, but the Rays strike out a lot and Houston’s offense can always pop off. With their season on the line, I still tend to lean toward the Astros staying alive.

Best MLB Bets for Thursday, October 15

  • Braves to Win (+196)
  • Dodgers vs. Braves Over 9 (-115)

There isn’t a whole lot to fall in love with here, both because the pricing isn’t great, and because MLB odds aren’t out for the Astros game.

The only bet I feel amazing about is the Over in the Dodgers game. I doubt Los Angeles scores 15 runs again, but Wednesday was a pretty loud reminder of what this offense is capable of.

And the Braves hope to slow that arsenal down with a bullpen game? Good luck with that, fellas.

L.A. is my pick to win, but at -215, they’re not a fun bet. I’d mostly go after the Over in this spot, but the Braves at +196 is fun enough to toss in as a secondary bet. After all, it’s not like their offense stinks, and we’ve seen Kershaw implode on a big stage before.

The odds aren’t live for the other game, but I like the Astros to stay alive, and the Under feels like the best approach toward the game total there, assuming the price is palatable enough.
