MLB Predictions and Best Bets – October 14, 2020
Things haven’t gone as planned for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros. Houston has faded fast in the ALCS, as they’re suddenly down 3-0 against the Tampa Bay Rays and staring at an early exit.
L.A. isn’t doing much better. Following a surprise scratch of ace Clayton Kershaw due to back spasms, the Dodgers fell into a 2-0 hole against the Atlanta Braves.
Both teams have another chance to turn things around on Wednesday, though, and you can bet on them. Here’s the schedule for Wednesday, October 14th.
- Braves vs. Dodgers
- Rays vs. Astros
The scenarios are clear. If Houston loses, they’re out. If the Dodgers can’t win, they’re about to follow suit. The question is how you should bet on these games.
Our MLB predictions and top betting picks aim to help you figure that out, and you can head over to the top MLB sportsbooks to place bets from there.
Braves vs. Dodgers Predictions
- Dodgers to beat Braves
- Predicted total: 9.5-10
Kershaw’s start being pushed back proved to be plenty damaging, and there’s no word yet when he’ll try to give it a go again. He’ll have to hope Julio Urias has it in him to keep the Braves at bay, as the young lefty gets the nod on Wednesday.
Atlanta can smash right-handed pitching, but this is likely to develop into a bullpen game. With Kyle Wright shaking in his boots on the other side, this one should be all Dodgers as we get ourselves a series.
Rays vs. Astros Predictions
- Astros beat Rays
- Predicted total: 8-8.5
I’ve bet against the Rays a lot in these playoffs, which hasn’t been a very profitable venture. They’re surely winning this series at this point, but I’ll go with Houston at least one more time.
Tyler Glasnow could dominate for the Rays, but Houston’s bats could also give him hell. This matchup also sets up pretty well for Zack Greinke, who is understandably Houston’s last shot at extending this thing.
I’ll give the Astros one more chance to make me look smart, as that offense is still lethal, and Greinke is a good enough ace to get behind.
Best MLB Bets for Wednesday, October 14
- Dodgers to Win (-170)
- Dodgers vs. Braves Over 9.5 (-105)
- Astros to Win (+123)
- Rays vs. Astros Under 8 (-115)
Most of your MLB bets will understandably attach themselves to whoever you think is winning each night. That gives you two wagers to build off of, and for me, it starts with the Astros and Dodgers on this slate.
I feel much stronger about L.A., of course, Kyle Wright has turned things around and he’s a top prospect, but he was bad before doing so. It’s quite likely a stacked Dodgers lineup – especially after they got it going with a rally late on Tuesday – hands him a quick exit.
The Dodgers should win, and their offense has the opportunity to contribute to a nice Over bet.
Houston’s last stand should be worth betting on. Their offense can blow up, and Greinke is a pretty good pitcher to hang your betting hat on. The Astros do just enough to win and prolong this series, but not so much that we sniff the Over in a pitcher’s battle.
