MLB Predictions and Best Bets – October 13, 2020

| October 13, 2020 12:15 am PDT

We are knee deep in the ALCS and NLCS. The Tampa Bay Rays are halfway to the 2020 World Series thanks to a 2-0 series lead over the Houston Astros, and the Atlanta Braves blew up late to take game one against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Is there anything stopping a Rays vs. Braves showdown? Maybe, maybe not. Before you commit to one side or the other, check out the action on the table tonight.

  • Braves vs. Dodgers
  • Rays vs. Astros

The ALCS could get out of control in a hurry, should Houston not find a way to get a win and jump back in this thing. On the other side, the Dodgers will be feeling the heat as they try to avoid an 0-2 hole of their own.

Braves vs. Dodgers Predictions

  • Dodgers to beat Braves
  • Predicted total: 7-7.5

L.A. is good enough to overcome an 0-2 hole, but that still isn’t a position they want to be in. The reality is the Dodgers are the better team, and they’ll be putting Clayton Kershaw on the mound to save them in game two.

Playoff Kershaw is often worth betting against, but I think he gets the job done in this spot. That, and Los Angeles has a lot of troubling bats for Atlanta rookie Ian Anderson to corral.

Rays vs. Astros Predictions

  • Astros to beat Rays
  • Predicted total: 7-7.5

This is probably Houston’s last stand. The Astros arguably have already made it further than anyone expected after a weak regular season that saw them finish below .500, and most people don’t even want them here.

Houston is still immensely talented, but they’re fighting karma, a good pitching staff, and the strong narrative that this could be the year of the Rays. As mighty as those winds are, the Astros still have the sticks to compete.

Ryan Yarbrough is scheduled to take the ball in this one, and in theory, that sets up nicely for Houston’s sea of dangerous righties.

Best MLB Bets for Tuesday, October 13

  • Dodgers to Win (-156)
  • Dodgers (-1.5) +125
  • Astros to Win (-101)

We’ve got two really talented offenses up against it on Tuesday. L.A. isn’t in quite as precarious of a spot as Houston, but you get the idea.

The Astros are the better bet, just because they could easily end up teeing off on Yarbrough, and they need this game more than anyone else playing today. I don’t really trust their pitching here, but the Rays do whiff a good amount.

L.A. is probably going to even this series up. They’re facing a young pitcher, and the odds are decent that it works in their favor. Barring a classic meltdown from Kershaw, the Dodgers offer solid value across the board.
