MLB Predictions and Best Bets – April 16, 2021

| April 16, 2021 4:17 am PDT

Yesterday didn’t get off to a good start, as one of my favorite MLB upsets was taken away with the winds (and rain) thanks to a PPD.

Hopefully, Friday’s MLB predictions and top betting picks fare a bit better.

On tap are 15 games, and I’ve looked at everyone playing before gauging how to bet on the MLB today.

This is a fantastic slate, featuring some intense series kicking off. Atlanta vs. Chicago is one of the better series to monitor here, AL East rivals in the Rays and Yankees have at it, and the Dodgers visit the Padres to cap things off.

It’s a really good slate, but how should you bet on it? I’ll start by handing out my MLB game-winner predictions and then dive into some of my favorite upsets and best bets.

MLB Game Winner Predictions for April 16th

  • Cubs to beat Braves
  • Yankees to beat Rays
  • Nationals to beat Diamondbacks
  • Phillies to beat Cardinals
  • White Sox to beat Red Sox
  • Reds to beat Indians
  • Marlins to beat Giants
  • Rangers to beat Orioles
  • Blue Jays to beat Royals
  • Pirates to beat Brewers
  • Mets to beat Rockies
  • Angels to beat Twins
  • Athletics to beat Tigers
  • Astros to beat Mariners
  • Dodgers to beat Padres

If you just want to know which MLB teams will win on Friday, hit up my free MLB picks listed above.

Factored into these MLB picks are starting pitchers, bullpens, lineups, and parks. Of course, you probably should be a bit more selective with your MLB betting, as betting on all 15 games stretches you pretty thin.

It’s fun, but I prefer to just hone in on a handful of bets that really stand out. If you’re betting on all of the games, refer to today’s MLB predictions.

For a bit more detail, check out my favorite MLB upsets and bets bets below.

Top MLB Upset Picks for April 16th

There isn’t a lot of value I’m enamored with, but I can’t yet quit the Pirates. I nailed them as an upset pick the other day, and I love the park upgrade they get as they face the Brew Crew.

That, and I’m not a big believer in Adrian Houser. I think he could have some trouble here, while a pretty watered-down Milwaukee lineup isn’t very scary, either.

Chicago also stands out as a fun +113 home dog. It’s always good to consider quality teams at home if they’re giving you plus money, but they could be in a good spot in this one.

First, the Braves just haven’t been themselves this year. Zach Davies also isn’t a guy that gets blown up a ton, so if he can keep the ball in the park, he should be okay.

The Cubs also have a solid matchup against Drew Smyly. He can be passable at times, but he has issues with righty power, and the Cubs have a good amount of it.

Few will get super excited to hammer the Pirates or Cubs as elite MLB underdog picks, but I like both as viable plays going into Friday.

Best MLB Bets for Friday, April 16th

Phillies to Win-120
Indians vs. Reds Over 9-104
Orioles vs. Rangers Over 9-116
Blue Jays to Win-131
Dodgers to Win-152
Astros to Win-115

Philadelphia had yesterday’s game rained out, so Zach Eflin tries to get it going against the visiting Cardinals. He’s a worrisome arm when facing quality righties, but the Cards’ best bats come from the right side of the plate.

Philly is also quite capable of crushing Carlos Martinez, who has a serious walk problem and is entering a hitter’s paradise.

I love the Phillies at -120, and to be frank, the Jays, Dodgers, and Astros are all way too cheap. Houston just got swept by the Tigers of all teams, but they get a rebound series against Seattle.

The Astros look good, Toronto’s righties could tee off on Mike Minor, and when do we see L.A. priced like this?

Bettors should hammer these moneylines and certainly consider exploiting any run lines that stand out, too. As far as game totals go, the Reds game is in a tough park for pitchers, and there’s enough power there to lean toward a shootout.

The O’s and Rangers aren’t reliable offenses, but the same is the case there regarding some nice power, while the pitching isn’t scary at all.

I love these MLB picks for Friday. If you’re on board, feel free to take my advice and apply it to the best MLB betting sites.
