MLB Predictions and Best Bets – April 15, 2021

| April 15, 2021 6:51 am PDT

Thursday’s MLB betting slate is a bit more condensed than usual. Just 11 games are on the docket, but sports bettors can at least refrain from over-betting today.

Before you place any bets, take a quick look at Thursday’s MLB matchups.

  • Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Mets
  • Miami Marlins vs. Atlanta Braves
  • San Diego Padres vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
  • Seattle Mariners vs. Baltimore Orioles
  • Boston Red Sox vs. Minnesota Twins
  • Cleveland Indians vs. Chicago White Sox
  • Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Washington Nationals
  • Texas Rangers vs. Tampa Bay Rays
  • Toronto Blue Jays vs. Kansas City Royals
  • Detroit Tigers vs. Oakland Athletics
  • Colorado Rockies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

It’s a pretty nice-looking slate, and it features some pretty good pitching.

The fun starts with a showdown between two NL East rivals in the Phillies and Mets, with Zach Eflin and Jacob deGrom engaging in a likely pitcher’s duel.

The pitching isn’t quite as impressive elsewhere, but at least there is major offensive potential in possible shootouts at Camden Yards and Target Field.

For a breakdown of how these games might go, check out today’s MLB predictions and picks.

MLB Game Winner Predictions for April 15th

  • Phillies to beat Mets
  • Braves to beat Marlins
  • Pirates to beat Padres
  • Orioles to beat Mariners
  • Twins to beat Red Sox
  • White Sox to beat Indians
  • Nationals to beat Diamondbacks
  • Rays to beat Rangers
  • Royals to beat Blue Jays
  • Athletics to beat Tigers
  • Dodgers to beat Rockies

If you want me to make a prediction for each MLB game on Thursday, refer to the list above. I factor in the lineups, the pitching, and the park to make these picks, but they don’t necessarily consider the odds attached to them.

After all, it’s one thing to predict what MLB teams will win and another to really get behind a bet you love.

A great example of the contrast there is picking the Dodgers to win, but not necessarily loving their moneyline.

This should be helpful if you just want regular MLB picks so you can be on your way, but I’ll also break down my favorite MLB upset picks and the best MLB bets to target for today’s slate.

Top MLB Upset Picks for April 15th

  • Phillies (+204)
  • Pirates (+170)

I also include my top MLB underdog picks in my MLB predictions section above, but there should be value in breaking things down further and providing my reasoning.

First, the pricing is alluring here. The Phillies are a good team with high upside on offense, so pretty much anytime you get them at plus money, you should take notice.

That’s certainly the case when they’re at +200 or higher. Yes, they’re facing off the amazing Jacob deGrom, but bettors should remember a few things.

First, the Phillies know deGrom quite well. Secondly, the Mets refuse to offer this dude run support for some reason.

This is also a rivalry game, and Zach Eflin is capable of limiting damage and keeping this game close. If the Phillies hang tight and are in it late, I don’t hate their chances (or the risk) when looking at this price tag.

Pittsburgh is the other big MLB upset play I like. The Pirates obviously are not a scary offense, but they’re at home, and Mitch Keller is a solid young pitcher that benefits from a pitcher’s park.

This bet is really about two things, though; the price and Chris Paddack not coming close to living up to expectations.

Paddack is an elite talent, but the guy seems to come up short more often than not. He has the talent to carve the Pirates up, but he has failed to control weak Arizona and Texas lineups in his first two starts.

I say ride the wave and keep betting against him for this road start.

Best MLB Bets for Thursday, April 15th

  • Braves to Win (-185)
  • Mariners vs. Orioles Over 9.5 (-110)
  • Red Sox vs. Twins Over 8.5 (-115)
  • Rays to Win (-175)
  • Athletics to Win (-157)

If you’re looking for good MLB bets, you have my basic MLB predictions and two MLB upset picks I am high on.

The list above shows you five of the best MLB bets for Thursday, and these are my priority plays going into April 15th.

Atlanta and Tampa Bay have strong pitching, are at home, and face vastly inferior teams in the Marlins and Rangers. I see no real reason to bet against them, as Ian Anderson and Rich Hill should slay in their prospective spots.

The pricing isn’t amazing, but it’s under -200 for valid home favorites, so I’m totally game for it.

Oakland just about fits in that same category. They are off to a slow start, but Sean Manaea gets a Tigers lineup that should serve as a “get right” opponent, and Oakland’s righty power could give Tarik Skubal some issues.

Speaking of power, I am also very high on the Over in the Mariners/Orioles and Red Sox/Twins games. I’d monitor the weather for the latter, but the total remains too low for a game at Camden Yards, and a clash between Boston and Minnesota should yield plenty of scoring.

Collectively, you’ve got some fine options to work with today if you came here for some viable MLB picks and predictions.
