Picks and Predictions for MLB Games – May 3rd, 2022

| May 2, 2022 3:23 pm PDT

We have an extra full slate of MLB action on Tuesday, as 16 games are on the schedule. The Atlanta Braves and New York Mets will play a doubleheader. Unfortunately, four games are off the board, meaning we’ll look at the odds for 12 matchups.

My MLB predictions went 5-5 last Thursday. I only hit on one of my three favorite bets, but I have plenty of opportunities to bounce back.

We’ll examine the 12 games on the board for Tuesday, May 3. Let’s start by checking out the odds.

MLB Odds for Tuesday, May 3rd

  • Padres (-130) vs. Guardians (+120), O/U 7.5
  • Rangers (+157) vs. Phillies (-171), O/U 8
  • Twins (-175) vs. Orioles (+161), O/U 7
  • Yankees (+125) vs. Blue Jays (-135), O/U 8
  • Angels (-120) vs. Red Sox (+110), O/U 8.5
  • Pirates (+134) vs. Tigers (-145), O/U 8
  • Reds (+224) vs. Brewers (-250), O/U 8
  • White Sox (-135) vs. Cubs (+125)
  • Mariners (+134) vs. Astros (-145), O/U 8.5
  • Cardinals (-130) vs. Royals (+120), O/U 7.5
  • Nationals (+139) vs. Rockies (-151), O/U 10.5
  • Giants (+139) vs. Dodgers (-151), O/U 7

We have a mix of a new series, and the second game of the series on Tuesday. The best matchups of Tuesday feature the AL East and NL West.

The New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays will meet for the sixth time this season. They split their opening four-game series and will play their fifth game on Monday night.

On the west coast, the San Francisco Giants will battle the Los Angeles Dodgers. Both teams look strong as they pursue another NL West title. Los Angeles is the best team against the spread, covering in 66.7 percent of their games.

The biggest discrepancy for the spread is the Yankees vs. Blue Jays. New York has covered 14 times in 22 games, while Toronto has only covered in nine games.

We typically see the run total stay in the 7-9 range, but how about the Washington Nationals vs. Colorado Rockies? Their run total of 10.5 is the largest I’ve seen this season. Colorado is one of four teams that have gone over their run total in 50 percent of their games.

The best MLB betting sites should update the remaining games for Tuesday. Feel free to check them out Tuesday morning.

Top MLB Predictions for May 3rd

  • Padres Over Guardians
  • Phillies Over Rangers
  • Orioles Over Twins
  • Blue Jays Over Yankees
  • Red Sox Over Angels
  • Tigers Over Pirates
  • Brewers Over Reds
  • Cubs Over White Sox
  • Astros Over Mariners
  • Royals Over Cardinals
  • Rockies Over Nationals
  • Giants Over Dodgers

The lone day game on Tuesday isn’t on the board, so we’ll start with the San Diego Padres picking up a victory over the Cleveland Guardians. San Diego has looked strong without Fernando Tatis Jr., and they should keep it going.

I have a pair of AL East teams pulling off the upset. Baltimore will have new ace Bruce Zimmerman on the mound. Zimmerman has a 0.93 ERA through four starts. He should neutralize the Minnesota Twins offense.

The Los Angeles Angels had been playing well, but they’ve been shut out in two of their last three games. Because of that, I’m taking the Boston Red Sox.

We should see an exciting AL West matchup between the Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros. Houston starter Christian Javier has looked strong in 2022.

  • 1.35 ERA
  • 0.90 WHIP
  • 3 Walks
  • 16 Strikeouts

Houston primarily uses him out of the bullpen, but he’ll earn the start on Tuesday night.

The Kansas City Royals is another upset pick. The St. Louis Cardinals have been better in 2022, but Royals starter Brad Keller has a 2.19 ERA. Hopefully, the Royals’ offense can give him run support.

Will the Colorado Rockies vs. Washington Nationals matchup feature over 10.5 runs? I’ll let you decide, but I’m picking the Rockies to win.

Finally, I like the San Francisco Giants to score a road victory. That should be a great matchup between two elite teams.

Best Bets for MLB Games on 5/3/22

  • Blue Jays to Win (-121)
  • Angels vs. Red Sox Under 8.5 Runs (+105)
  • Giants to Win (+130)

My favorite bets for Tuesday’s action kick off a Toronto Blue Jays victory. Toronto had a great start to 2022, but the Yankees are riding a long win streak. It’s only a matter of time before that win streak ends, and it could happen Tuesday.

New York’s offense has looked strong, but they’ll have a tough time with Blue Jays starter Alex Manoah. He is 4-0 with a 1.44 ERA and 0.88 WHIP. Manoah allowed one hit over six innings against the Yankees on April 11. He should keep it going, leading the Blue Jays to the victory.

The Los Angeles Angels have scored the most runs in the MLB, so why am I taking the under for this matchup? Check out the numbers for Boston Red Sox starter Michael Wacha.

  • 2-0
  • 1.77 ERA
  • 0.93 WHIP
  • 9 Walks
  • 17 Strikeouts

Wacha needs to cut down on his walks, but he should hold down the Angels’ offense. I expect to see the same from Noah Syndergaard. He hasn’t allowed more than two runs in three starts. Not to mention, the Red Sox offense ranks bottom ten in the majors.

Finally, we examine the game of the night between the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers. Los Angeles leads the NL West, with San Francisco 1.5 games back. This will be their first matchup of 2022.

The Giants will have ace Carlos Rodon on the mound. He has been great with the Giants, holding a 1.17 ERA with 38 strikeouts. He’ll have his hands full with the Dodgers lineup, but he has shut down great offenses. It’s tough to pick against the Dodgers, but I like the value of the Giants.
