Picks and Predictions for MLB Games – May 24th, 2022

Last week, we had an unusual day for MLB betting. We typically have at least seven or eight games, but Thursday only featured four games with odds. We went 2-2 in those four games, with both losses coming on a walk-off.

The sportsbooks have redeemed themselves for Tuesday, releasing the odds for 12 of the 15 games. Bettors will have plenty of chances to earn a profit on MLB action.

We have quite a few games to cover. Let’s start with the odds for Tuesday’s MLB action.

The first thing that stands out about the odds for Tuesday’s action is the low run total in a pair of matchups. The Miami Marlins vs. Tampa Bay Rays matchup will feature a pair of aces, so the sportsbooks don’t have much faith in the offenses.

It’ll be a similar situation with the Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Diego Padres. Last year’s NL Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes will face Padres starter Blake Snell.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are one of the biggest favorites for Tuesday’s action. It’s not as simple for the Arizona Diamondbacks, but the betting trends are on their side. Is that enough for you to back them?

How many times have we seen the Cincinnati Reds open as the favorite this season? They’ve been playing better lately, but I like the Chicago Cubs to lead Tuesday’s slate with a victory.

I like the Seattle Mariners to win the battle of AL West teams.

The betting trends should hold true for the Arizona Diamondbacks. They have an excellent chance to extend the Kansas City Royals’ losing streak.

We close things out with perhaps the game of the day between the New York Mets and San Francisco Giants. San Francisco is a home favorite, but the Mets have the better record. Chris Bassitt gives them a slight advantage over San Francisco.

The Boston Red Sox had a rough start to the 2022 season, but a five-game win streak has them back in contention for a wild-card spot. Boston’s offense has been mashing the ball, scoring 5+ runs in five straight games. They capped it off with a walk-off grand slam.

The Chicago White Sox are coming off an impressive doubleheader sweep of the New York Yankees. Still, they aren’t playing on the same level as Boston. I expect the Red Sox to continue their win streak and move up the standings.

I mentioned how the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves are big in going over their run total. Tuesday’s pitching matchup has me thinking that’ll continue.

I have confidence in Max Fried, but he has allowed 3+ runs in three of his eight starts. We know the Phillies have a potent offense. Atlanta’s offense hasn’t been great, but they have a great chance to break out against a weak Phillies bullpen.

We know the betting trends heavily favor the Arizona Diamondbacks to win and cover the spread. Even without the trends, I feel good about the Diamondbacks scoring the victory.

Following a terrible 2021 season, Arizona has been decent in 2022. They’ve hovered right around .500 in a tough NL West. They’ll have ace Zac Gallen on the mound Tuesday night. He’s 3-0 with a 1.14 ERA and 0.71 WHIP.

The Kansas City Royals have one of the worst offenses in the MLB. It’ll be tough for them to manufacture runs against Gallen.
