Minnesota United vs. Houston Dynamo – MLS, October 18, 2020

| October 15, 2020 3:38 pm PDT

Minnesota United and Houston Dynamo meet at Allianz Field on Sunday, October 18, with both sides having been denied a win by Nashville in their previous outing.

The Loons were held to a goalless draw last time out and now find themselves sixth in the Eastern Conference. Over in the West, Houston is second-bottom following two straight defeats.

Minnesota United vs. Houston Dynamo Odds

Minnesota United to Win1.90
The Draw3.70
Houston Dynamo to Win3.55

In my opinion, Minnesota (1.90) is the deserved home favorite to win this one. The Loons haven’t been overly consistent lately, but they have definitely performed better than Houston (3.55).

The Dynamo has only managed to win one of their last nine games, with five defeats coming in that time. If it wasn’t for the poor form of LA Galaxy, the Texas club would almost certainly be bottom of the Western Conference.

Minnesota United vs. Houston Dynamo Preview

Following three matches without a win, Minnesota has now managed to string together a three-game unbeaten run. A 2-0 victory over Cincinnati came in-between goalless draws against Real Salt Lake and Nashville, keeping the Saint Paul outfit inside the all-important top eight.

It feels as though hopes of securing the Supporters’ Shield have vanished at this stage, although Adrian Heath’s side is still only seven points behind conference-leaders Seattle Sounders. The Loons also have a game in hand over the majority of teams ahead of them in standings, so I don’t think they can give up on conquering the East just yet.

Having said that, Heath’s men must build on their current unbeaten streak. The team has struggled for consistency throughout the campaign, but this could be the perfect opportunity to gather some momentum and push up the table.

With less than 25 minutes on the clock, Tab Ramos’ men found themselves 3-0 down at home to Nashville on Wednesday. Darwin Quintero netted a late consolation goal for the Dynamo, but the damage had already been done.

Quintero has been a bright spot in an otherwise gloomy year for Houston. The forward has racked up six goals and three assists in his last 12 appearances, and he will surely be desperate to get one over on his former club on Sunday.

However, Quintero’s team-mates have struggled to match his performances, especially in defense. Houston has kept just three clean sheets in 18 games this term, so it is hardly surprising the Texans find themselves second from bottom in the West.

Minnesota United vs. Houston Dynamo Pick

  • Minnesota United to Win

Sorry, Houston supporters, but I can’t see your team’s struggles ending this weekend. With the Dynamo losing 3-1 to Nashville last time out, I’m confident that Minnesota will cruise to a comfortable victory on Sunday.

The Loons will be eager to extend their three-game unbeaten streak and move up the table again, and I believe the visit of struggling Houston provides them with the perfect to do exactly that.
