Minnesota United vs. FC Dallas – MLS, November 8, 2020

| November 6, 2020 5:58 am PDT

Dallas leads Minnesota by just three points in the Western Conference as the two sides prepare to face off at Allianz Field on the final day of the MLS regular season.

Both teams have already booked their place in the playoffs, but with the final standings being decided on a points-per-game basis, neither side will want to drop down the table.

I discuss the bookmakers’ odds for Sunday’s clash before sharing my Minnesota United vs. FC Dallas prediction and pick.

Minnesota United vs. FC Dallas Odds

Minnesota United to Win 2.10
The Draw 3.25
FC Dallas to Win 3.50

Despite the Toros’ narrow advantage over the Loons, the leading online betting sites view Minnesota (2.10) as the favorite to win on Sunday.

However, having won their previous three games, Dallas (3.50) will definitely fancy their chances of getting something from their final regular-season outing.

Minnesota United vs. FC Dallas Preview

Minnesota extended their unbeaten streak to seven games with an impressive comeback draw against Chicago on Wednesday. The Fire held a 2-0 advantage until the hour mark, but late goals from Jose Aja and Robin Lod saw the Loons snatch a point.

Lod has now scored in back-to-back games, taking his tally to nine goals and three assists this year. With the playoffs looming, the Finland international appears to be hitting form at just the right time.

At the other end of the pitch, Dayne St. Clair has kept four clean sheets in his last seven appearances. The goalkeeper has been immense in recent weeks, meaning that only three sides in the Western Conference have a better defensive record than Minnesota.

If Adrian Heath’s star performers continue to shine, I don’t think anybody will be too keen on the idea of facing the Loons in the playoffs.

Dallas is also fast becoming a feared postseason opponent. The Toros are unbeaten in their last four games, including three straight victories over Inter Miami, Houston Dynamo, and Nashville SC.

Luchi Gonzalez’s side has maintained their record as the best defensive team in the division, with consecutive clean sheets coming in their previous two outings. However, it is no secret that Dallas must start scoring more goals.

The Texans have netted the fewest goals in the top eight of the West, while only three teams in the division have scored less. The Toros have relied on their backline throughout the campaign, but how long can that last?

Still, no side in the West has lost fewer games than Dallas this year, so Gonzalez’s methods are clearly working.

Minnesota United vs. FC Dallas Betting Pick

  • The Draw

Both these teams are flying into the playoffs in strong form. Minnesota is unbeaten in seven outings, while Dallas hasn’t tasted defeat in their last four. It’s safe to say that this will be a competitive encounter.

Having taken everything into consideration, I believe the draw is the way to go here. Neither manager will want to go into the postseason on the back of a loss, so I can see the teams sharing the points on Sunday.
