Milwaukee Brewers vs. Los Angeles Dodgers – MLB, September 30, 2020

The Milwaukee Brewers travel to Dodger Stadium in LA this Wednesday to open their National League first-round series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. It’s the best-of-three set, so the stake is enormous in the opener for both sides.

The Brewers hope they can stun the Dodgers despite the fact they are listed as huge +325 underdogs to reach the next round. I’m bringing you the best Brewers vs. Dodgers betting pick for the opening contest Wednesday night with the first pitch at 10:08 PM ET. 

The Dodgers cruised through the 60-game regular season, finishing with a terrific 43-17 record and atop of the NL West. On the other side, the 29-31 Brewers barely sneaked into the playoffs as the fourth-placed team in the NL Central.

The hosts had the best record in baseball. They hit the most round-trippers and posted the best ERA of 3.02, so don’t be surprised by some unattractive odds in this series.

The Brewers have been struggling offensively since the start of the 2020 MLB season. They finished 27^th in runs scored per game (4.12), 26^th in batting average (.223), and 23^rd in slugging percentage (.389).

Christian Yelich had a nightmare season, hitting 12 home runs and 22 RBI in 200 at-bats. He was just consistently terrible (I had him in one of my fantasy teams, and Yelich was like the worst baseball player ever).

Over the previous two years, Yelich was leading the National League in batting average, slugging percentage, and OPS.

At least, the Brewers’ pitching staff posted the 11^th-best ERA of 4.16, as you must be asking how the hell they even got it to the playoffs. Furthermore, the 2020 MLB schedule was pretty specific, and the Brewers played a ton of games against the hapless Pirates, Royals, and Tigers.

On the other side, the Dodgers had the highest-scoring offense in 2020, averaging a whopping 5.82 runs per game. They were 11^th in batting average (.256) and tied-first for the best slugging percentage (.483).

The Blue Crew hit 118 home runs, 15 more than the second-best Atlanta Braves. Mookie Bets had a nice first season in Los Angeles, leading the way with 16 homers and 39 RBI. AJ Pollock also hit 16 round-trippers, while Corey Seager tallied 15 home runs and 41 RBI.

Walker Buehler will get the starting nod for the Dodgers in Game 1, and the righty was 1-0 with a 3.44 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in eight starts this past regular season. Buehler had some injury problems, but the Dodgers shouldn’t be worried, as their relievers had the second-best ERA in baseball (2.74).

On the other side, the Brewers’ bullpen was 11^th with a 4.17 ERA. Milwaukee will start Brent Suter on Wednesday, and the lefty was 2-0 with 3.13 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in four starts and 12 relief outings in the regular season.

The Dodgers were destroying everybody during the regular season and went 13-5 against the left-handed starting pitchers. Brent Suter won’t last for too long, three innings top, so the Brewers will lean on their bullpen for the rest of the way.

I’m not going to overthink this one. The Dodgers are a much better team, and I think the Brewers’ offense won’t start hitting the ball well just like that, though there are some dangerous bats in their lineup.

Therefore, give me the Dodgers to cover, as 11 of their previous 12 wins came by two or more runs.
