Milwaukee Brewers vs. Chicago Cubs Pick – August 13, 2020
The Milwaukee Brewers head to Wrigley Field on Thursday, kicking off a tense NL Central division clash with the hated Chicago Cubs.
Milwaukee and Chicago met earlier this year, with the Cubs taking the series, 2-1. The Cubs have been surprisingly elite ever since, losing a grand total of two games since that opening string of games.
The Brewers hope to hand Chicago a loss here, of course and will have lefty Brett Anderson (0-1, 5.40 ERA) open the game. Corbin Burnes will follow Anderson and hope to keep the Cubs at bay.
On the other side is Yu Darvish (2-1, 2.12 ERA), who has looked very strong so far in 2020, but did have some issues with the Brew Crew (six hits allowed, three earned runs) earlier this season.
So, which side should you take? Check out this Brewers vs. Cubs betting pick and prediction to find out.
Brewers vs. Cubs Odds
The top MLB betting websites peg the Cubs as the favorite. That makes plenty of sense, as they look good at a stout 12-3, won the earlier series against Milwaukee, and are at home.
The Cubs are 7-1 at home on the year, as well as a stellar 10-2 when favored.
Milwaukee has actually been pretty solid (5-3) on the road this year and is trying to battle back after a slow start. The Brewers are also 3-4 when picked as the underdog.
You won’t get a ton of value with the Cubs as a straight-up winner, but the Brewers have enticing +157 odds when looking at their money line.
Both offenses are very dangerous, but quality pitching and the fact that the wind is blowing in makes the Under pretty intriguing.
Brewers vs. Cubs Game Preview
This matchup boils down to the weather for me. When the wind is blowing out at Wrigley Field, it’s basically like playing at Coors Field.
Today, it’s very much a pitcher’s haven, which is going to greatly favor the home offense, as well as the superior arm in Darvish.

Darvish has looked more like the elite pitcher Chicago paid him to be, too.
While Darvish struggled against Milwaukee in the first meeting, he still racked up five strikeouts in four innings. He also handled them quite well in 2019, going 1-0 with a scorching 0.90 ERA and 15 strikeouts across two starts.
Chicago has the edge when it comes to pitching, and it’s arguable they have the more lively bats in this spot, too. To start, their lethal batch of right-handed bats could tee off on Brett Anderson, and they’ll then face Corbin Burnes for a good chunk of the game.
Neither pitcher is a gas can and the wind is a big factor, however, so the edge here is minimal.
Prediction and Pick
The Cubs are almost certainly winning this game. Milwaukee does have some quality pitching and elite bullpen, however, and betting on the Cubs to win isn’t very alluring.
Chicago to win at -170 is probably the safest pick if you’re betting on the Brewers vs. Cubs game, but my favorite MLB pick from this contest is the Under.
When the wind blows in, I like the Under, but it only helps that the Brewers are going to have their power suppressed here, and the pitching is fairly good on both ends.
