The Miami Marlins take on the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday in their final duel of the 2020 MLB season, wrapping up a three-game series at Tropicana Field.

The Rays have won their first four meetings of the season with the Marlins, covering the spread three times in the process. They are undefeated in nine straight matchups with the Marlins excluding Saturday night’s middle contest of this series.

The Rays improved to 27-12 on the season with a 5-4 victory over the Marlins last Friday. They were sitting atop of the AL East, five and a half games ahead of the Yankees and Blue Jays.

Hereof, Tampa is listed as a firm -210 fave to beat Miami. Furthermore, the Rays will start one of their best pitchers, so the bookies are pretty sure the hosts will win Sunday. The Marlins were 16-17 on Saturday and two and a half games behind the second-placed Phillies in the AL East.

At least, the Marlins hold the wild card just half a game ahead of the Colorado Rockies.

Tyler Glasnow will take the mound for the Rays, and the 27-year-old righty has been terrific over his last two outings against the Orioles and Yankees. Last week, he beat Gerrit Cole while tossing six shutout innings.

Glasnow is 2-1 with a 4.24 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in seven starts this term. He’ll get the Marlins for the first time since 2017.

On the other side, the Marlins will send lefty Trevor Rogers to the mound. The 22-year-old rookie is 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in a couple of starts, posting an 11/7 K/BB ratio across nine innings.

Rogers tossed five innings in a 5-3 win over the Mets this past Monday, yielding a couple of earned runs on five hits and two walks while punching out five. The Rays are 7-5 against the lefties this season, while the Marlins are 13-8 against the right-handers.

Tampa is doing a great job offensively, averaging 5.15 runs per game, enough for the eighth-most in the majors. The Marlins tally just 4.12 runs per contest and are the seventh-most inefficient team in baseball.

The Rays are swinging a hot bat, and I expect to see more of the same Sunday when they square off against rookie pitcher. On the other side, the Marlins could easily have a very tough day in the office, considering how good Tyler Glasnow was over the previous two weeks.

Therefore, give me the hosts to win even though the moneyline odds are not alluring. If you want to take a risk, I suggest you go with the Rays to cover. However, this could be a proper low-scoring affair, so I would stick with the Rays to win straight up.
