The Miami Marlins take on the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday, October 6, opening their National League Division Series at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

The Marlins are back in the postseason after 16 long years. Interestingly, they’ve never lost the playoff series in franchise history, winning the World Series in 1997 and 2003.

On the other side, the Braves will try to reach the National League Championship Series for the first time in 18 years. They exited in the NLDS in eight of their last nine playoff appearances along with one wild-card defeat.

Hereof, the opening game at the neutral site in Houston will bring plenty of excitement, so here’s my best Marlins vs. Braves betting pick.

Marlins vs. Braves Odds

Marlins +1.5 -120
Braves -1.5 +100
Marlins to Win +177
Braves to Win -193
Over 8.0 -115
Under 8.0 -105

These two NL East foes met each other 10 times this past regular season, and the Braves won six of those 10 contests including an epic 29-9 victory on September 9.

Atlanta is 4-1 in its previous five matchups with Miami. The Braves won the NL East title, too, so the bookies didn’t have any dilemma who’s going to be listed as a strong fave in this one.

Marlins vs. Braves Preview

The Marlins swept the Cubs in the Wild Card Series, beating them 5-1 and 2-0 in Chicago. Miami was a big underdog, but the Cubs showed how winning the division title means nothing if you have a lousy offense.

Back in the regular season, the Marlins haven’t impressed either. They were scoring 4.38 runs per game (21st in the majors) on a .244 batting average (16th) and .384 slugging percentage (25th).

On the other side, the Braves swept the Cincinnati Reds (1-0 and 5-0) at home in the wild-card matchup.

They finished the regular season as the second-most efficient team in baseball with 5.80 runs scored per game. The Braves were batting .268 (2nd) and slugging .483 (tied-1st).

Atlanta will start Max Fried in the opening game of the NLDS. The lefty went 7-0 with a 2.25 ERA and 1.09 WHIP this past regular season, and Fried tossed six shutout innings in a 1-0 victory over Cincy last week.

Max is 0-1 with a 5.13 ERA in six career starts against the Marlins. He met Miami twice in 2020 and yielded two earned runs on seven hits and three walks through 7.1 innings of work.

On the other side, the Marlins will start Sandy Alcantara who threw 6.2 innings in a 5-1 win at the Cubs last week. The righty allowed one earned run on three hits and three walks while striking out four.

Alcantara was 3-2 with a 3.00 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in seven starts last regular season. He meets the Braves for the first time in 2020 after starting in three no-decision contests against Atlanta in his career.

Marlins vs. Braves Pick

The Marlins entered the 2020 MLB season as huge underdogs, surprising everyone by clinching the playoff berth. They upset the odds in the Wil Card Series, too, taking advantage of the Cubs’ terrible offense, but the matchup with the Braves will be something different.

Unlike the Cubs, the Braves have been swinging the hot bat all season long. They clubbed 103 home runs, 43 more than the Marlins did in 2020. The Braves’ lineup is terrifying from top to bottom, so I’m backing Atlanta to win and cover.
