The long-awaited NBA Finals will start on Wednesday with Game 1 between the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers, the two best teams from East and West, who deservedly secured their place in the championship series. Miami will appear in its first NBA Finals since 2014, while this will be Los Angeles’ first appearance since 2010. The Game 1 tip-off is set at 9 PM ET.

These inter-conference rivals have met on two occasions this season, and the Lakers won both encounters. This is my Heat vs. Lakers betting pick for Game 1.

Betting Odds for Heat vs. Lakers

Heat +4.5 -110
Lakers -4.5 -110
Heat to win +170
Lakers to win -185
Over 217.5 -110
Under 217.5 -110

The bookmakers are giving the Lakers an advantage in the opening game of the NBA Finals with the -4.5 spread, and Los Angeles managed to cover that spread once in two regular-season wins this season. The total is set at 217.5, which is a tricky total for the bettors who prefer backing Over/Under because one of two games this year went Over, while the other produced just 175 points.

Heat Analysis

Miami swept the Indiana Pacers and dismantled one of the biggest favorites for the NBA title, Milwaukee Bucks, in the second round in the Eastern Conference. The Heat had more problems with the Boston Celtics in the ECF but decided the series in six games, and Erik Spoelstra’s team showed the world they are no pushovers this season. Although the Lakers are favorites to win the ring, the Heat cannot be excluded here.

The Heat are the 5th best offensive team in postseason with 112.2 points per game, 11th in rebounds (42.9), 3rd in assists (25.1), 4th in steals (7.5), and 8th in blocks with 4.1 per contest.

Goran Dragic leads the team in points in the playoffs with 20.9 per game, which is perhaps surprising, considering the Heat has Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, but that only shows Miami’s strength and depth. Adebayo is the best in rebounds (11.4), assists (4.9), and blocks (0.9), while Jimmy Buckets is averaging 12.9 steals per contest.

Lakers Analysis

Los Angeles lost the opening game in the first two rounds to the Portland Trail Blazers and Houston Rockets but then won four consecutive games to reach the WCF. In the WCF, the Lakers beat the Denver Nuggets in five games as well, and their fans are hoping for a similar scenario in the NBA Finals, but it’s not going to be easy against the Heat.

The Lakers are the 3rd most efficient team in the playoffs with 113.9 points per game, 8th in rebounds (43.7), 1st in assists (25.9), 3rd in steals (8.5), and 1st in blocks with 5.7 blocks per contest.

Anthony Davis leads the team in points (28.8) and blocks (1.2), LeBron James is the best when it comes to rebounds (10.3) and assists (8.9), while Rajon Rondo is the top stealer on the team with 1.6 thefts per contest.

Heat vs. Lakers Prediction and Pick

It’s going to be a tight Game 1, and in my opinion, it could go either way. The Lakers displayed weaker performances in Game 1 in the previous series, while Miami won Game 1 in each of the three playoff series so far. The spread on the Lakers is not big, but I am really not sure which team will get a win on Wednesday.

I surely expect a close tilt that could go to the wire and possible overtime, and that’s why I am going with Over. The Lakers allowed Denver 100+ points in each of five games in the WCF, and I am sure the Heat will score 100+ here.
