Prediction for Mets vs. Angels – Sunday, June 12th, 2022
The New York Mets will conclude their west coast road swing with a matchup against the Los Angeles Angels. New York kicked off the series with a 7-3 victory on Friday night.
It wasn’t long ago that the Mets and Angels were among the best teams in the league. New York holds the best record in the NL, but Los Angeles dropped out of the playoffs after a 14-game losing streak.
My Mets vs. Angels prediction has to take that into account. We should see the Mets vs. Angels odds reflect that as well.

The top MLB betting sites are giving the Los Angeles Angels respect despite their 14-game losing streak. If the odds remain this close, my Mets vs. Angels pick might not be difficult.
Los Angeles could be in trouble if the betting trends are any indication of this game. New York’s 36-24 record against the spread is the best in the majors. Los Angeles is just under .500, holding a 29-31 record.
Both teams have favored the over, with the Mets ranking top-five in the majors. The Angels are around .500, going over in 51.8 percent of their games. We could explore the run total for my Mets vs. Angels prediction.
Mike Trout and Starling Marte have missed the last two games as they deal with injuries. We aren’t sure if either player will play Sunday. Their playing status would affect the Mets vs. Angels odds.
Mets vs. Angels Analysis
On May 24, the New York Mets and Los Angeles Angels were among the best teams in the MLB. New York held a 29-16 record, while Los Angeles was 27-17. Since then, we’ve seen the teams move in opposite directions.
The Mets continue to play strong baseball, going 10-5 in their last 15 games. Meanwhile, the Angels are 1-15. It has been a disaster over the last two weeks. That prompted them to fire manager Joe Maddon.
What was the issue for the Angels during their 14-game losing streak? It was a little bit of everything.
- .216 batting average (27th)
- 40 runs (29th)
- 5.77 ERA (27th)
- 1.57 WHIP (26th)
A bad offense and pitching staff aren’t a good recipe for winning games. If that continues, I won’t have an issue making my Mets vs. Angels pick.
The Mets’ offense continues to score at will. We expected their pitching to lead them, but they’ve scored the second-most runs in the majors. The latest 2022 NL MVP odds have Pete Alonso as a top contender.
He has a .281 batting average, ranking top-five with 16 home runs and 54 RBIs. Los Angeles will have a tough night if they can’t stop him.
We should see a competitive pitching matchup with Taijuan Walker facing Patrick Sandoval. Both players have stout numbers, but Sandoval has been a little better.
- 2.81 ERA
- 1.31 WHIP
- 24 Walks
- 46 Strikeouts
Sandoval needs to cut down on the walks, but he has only allowed more than three runs once in his nine starts. Walker has fewer walks, but he can’t match Sandoval’s strikeouts. They could be the determining factor in my Mets vs. Angels prediction.
Can the Angels bounce back from their losing skid, or will the Mets continue their hot streak?
Mets vs. Angels Same Game Parlay
- Mark Canha to Record a Hit (-175)
- Mike Trout to Record an RBI (+120)
- Eduardo Escobar to Record a Run (+120)
Mike Trout makes his return to play a factor in my same game parlay. Will the outcome affect your New York Mets vs. Los Angeles Angels prediction? It’ll give you (+739) odds.
Mark Canha is enjoying an impressive first season with the Mets. He didn’t hit above .275 in his seven seasons with the Oakland Athletics, but he’s hitting .301 through 49 games with the Mets.
Canha has been consistent throughout the season. His batting average didn’t drop below .300 until May 10. He is 9-26 in his last seven games, recording four RBIs. Not to mention, he’s 4-7 in his career against Angels starter Patrick Sandoval.
Do you remember when Mike Trout had an 0-26 streak? Well, he has put that to rest, recording a hit in six of his last eight at-bats. Ultimately, I like this prop because of his numbers against Taijuan Walker.
- 3 home runs
- 6 RBIs
Trout has three home runs and five RBIs in his last two games. Now he’ll face a pitcher that hasn’t stopped him in his career. Why wouldn’t you back Trout to record an RBI on Sunday night?
Eduardo Escobar didn’t have a great start to his Mets tenure. Escobar was hitting .203 on May 21, but he has flipped a switch in the last few weeks.
Escobar has been on a tear lately, hitting .321 with three home runs, 15 RBIs, and 13 runs. It was tempting to have him recording a hit, but I opted for the value of him recording a run. He has recorded six runs in his last seven games. Can he continue the streak on Sunday?
Mets vs. Angels Pick
I had a strong feeling my New York Mets vs. Los Angeles Angels pick would side with the Mets, but my analysis had me reconsidering. Ultimately, the odds have me moving back to the Mets.
I believe Mike Trout will play, but do the Angels have enough offense to compete with the Mets? Maybe if they had Taylor Ward and a full-strength Trout, I’d say yes. There’s too much doubt to pick the Angels.
